The Canon T-90 System |

Modern
Classic SLRs Series : |
The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

I just pulled out my T90 after a couple of years in the closet. When I press the shutter release (no film), rather than firing, the index arrow indicating the winding speed blinks. Pressing the film winding mode botton on the film winding mode/self-timer selector will reset the flashing, but when I press the shutter release, it flashes again. I changed the batteries with no effect. I had the shutter replaced a few years ago when it did the same thing (if I remember correctly).
Are there any possible remedies that I can try myself? If not does anyone know a good repair shop in NYC?2. From : Erasmus B.Black (africanqeen@hotmail.com)

To Tim and Tony. Price is a variable without an answer. If an out of box camera, never used is still working like new, then 599.00 is as they say within the ballpark. Mainly I say this because there are so few new old stock cameras like the T90. In fact, I havent heard of any at all in years. Possibly this camera was placed in a time capsule in 1986 and just released? Use it, enjoy it, leave it to your heirs even , and if you notice that T90's can sell up to $700.00 from dealers with a 6 month warrantee onlhy, so how could you lose on such a deal?. Now Tim, that will be $10.00 fee to Erasmus favorite charity the Black foundation for boosting your self esteem, my T90 colleague. (joke). On the sudden cardiac arrest like failure thing, Tony. Wouldn't it be nice to hope that something simple causes a failure like the sudden stroke paralysis of the T90 syndrome you describe? It's like finding a fuse blew in the car and that's all, but lots of luck.. Alas, others who work on them may verify this, the internal battery has only one purpose as I understand this camera. Namely to keep information on film speed, number of exposures and other settings only when the four AA cells are being replaced. If your battery compartment is clean and fresh cells are in, hmmm.... So that guess is not going to work, but good try. No cigar today. Yet, our higher power works in mysterious ways and you may well have suffered something not catastrophic. But is there such a thing as a user replaceable part in this camera? How are your soldering and troubleshooting skills? Mine suck. In the event that the camera has not seen a technician for 9 years, I might suggest you consult one of the places that have been referenced as reliable. Budget a hundred dollars and decide it might go as high as two hundred. Remember, this is a camera valued by Tim and others at $700, right?. Wishing you all a happy summer and keep the teenagers raking the lawn. I have to do it all and more here at the Queen. Yours forever, rocking the rocking chair on, Erasmus B.Black3. My T-90 went totally dead, all at once. Can anyone tell me if this will happen when the internal battery wears out? I can't find any information about the symptoms on the Internet. The battery was replaced about 9 years ago (so it is due to expire), but that was part of a "tune-up," so it was functioning at the time.
I have had the camera about 15 years, and it has been a flawless performer (until now). I have argued (successfully, I think) that the T-90 may be the best SLR ever made; for example, it will outperform even a Nikon F4 in the rain, i.e., it kept on working. I saw that happen first hand! It is certainly my favorite camera. (I also use an F-1, an A-1, and medium format Mamiyas.) Any insights concerning symptomes when the internal battery dies would be greatly appreciated.

This is a great site! I just stumbled onto a brand new T90 with the manufacturer's warrantee and I bought it for $599.00. Did I pay too much or did I do okay? It's never been used before.5. From : Syd (Syd@croft144.freeserve.co.uk)

Where can I buy a new cable release? I think I am looking for a 60T3 remote switch. (I lost mine in Yellowstone NP this last weekend) Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks tommy.kemp@ipaper.com7. From : Don Clary (donaldaclary@cyberhotline.com)

Syd - Leaving the switch on and powering the LCD will not harm the LCD, but power will be applied to other? circuitry inside the T90. Modern electronics are very reliable once you get part the "infant mortality" stage. This means that if the new electronics doesn't fail in the first few days of operation, it will work for a very long time. I think I would be more comfortable with turning the camera on the day that I will use it, and then turning it off at the end of the day, or when I don't expect to use it for some time.8. Don – Many thanks for the info on LCD life. I too am an Engineer, so I appreciate where you are coming from. One further question if you don’t mind. Whilst I accept switching an LCD on and off 10, 000 times a day will not shorten its life, what would be the effect of leaving it permanently switched on? My objective here is to minimise wear and tear on the L – A switch by using it as little as possible. The logic being that I can easily replace the four AA batteries, but not the L – A switch.

Irwin, sorry to hear your sad honeymoon tale. Speak to George at Crystal Camera Repair. 404 N Louisiana Street, Asheville, NC 28806. They even have a phone..........(828) 255-8101. It took ten days from the time it left my hands till they called me wanting my money. I spoke to them at 9am. It was here by UPS at 10:30 the next day. I gave the delivery man a concussion getting to the box. Just hearing that shutter fly after such a long sentence made me want to slap myself for not finding you sooner..... Seven rolls through the tank since it was returned. Not a problem...........Now, please pardon me, the possum stew is almost to the peak of flavor....Rock on...tim http://www.crystalcamera.com/
