The Canon T-90 System |

Modern
Classic SLRs Series : |
The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

Horst, I had the same problem with one of my T-90's. It had the same symptoms, pluss a tikking sound from somewhere inside. I found the problem, and managed to fix it again. It was the mirror releasing magnet wich was dirty. A simple cleaning got it up and running again. The problem is that you have to take out the whole mirror box. An extensive job. Feel free to contact me if you need instructions. BTW, most problems in the T90 is due to dirty magnets. They are hard too get to though. Ketil2. From : Horst Scheid (scheid@siebe.de)

Hi, my T90's shutter is not working. Instead the arrow at the displays right side (where the mode for S/H/L is indicated) starts flashing. What can be the reason? I tried with different lenses, also without and without film. All measurements are still ok. The display shows no (!) 'EEEE/Help'-message, and there is no blinking 'ISO100' from the backup battery. All other functions/measurements seem to be ok, AA batteries are new - so what is wrong and what can i do ???3. From : John from Greece (pap5@vol.forthnet.gr)

On the subject of the "EEE" problem with the T90. I am a camera repairman and specialize in the repair of Canon 35mm cameras and lenses. The "EEE" problem is caused by dirty switches and magnets in the shutter mechanism. In the past I have cleaned the shutter unit but the fix only lasts so long, so the best fix is to replace the shutter unit. This has worked without fail.6. From : Edward (edwyun@hotmail.com)

I’ve been trying to figure out a way to avoid the EEEE/Help problem on the T90. Here’s my thinking: BACKGROUND: The T90’s internal lithium battery is (solely?) used to keep the frame count and ISO setting when you have film in the camera but do not have the main “AA” batteries in the camera (i.e.: the brief instant when changing the “AA” main batteries with film in the camera). So, the only reason the T90 would need to draw power from the internal lithium battery would be if there was film in the T90 and there was no main “AA” batteries in the camera for the T90 to draw power from. PROBLEMS: Now, logic would dictate that, when you have film in the camera, you should keep the main batteries in the T90 at all times possible so that the internal lithium battery is not completely drained (after several years?) due to lack of power from the main “AA” batteries. BUT, a problem can arise if you store the T90 with film and with the main “AA” batteries for a long time because the T90 may drain the main “AA” batteries to a degree such that when you try to use the T90 later, there is not enough or full power for the shutter motor to take a photo. And therefore you get the EEEE/Help problem. Moreover, others on this list have said that, if you do not use the T90 for a long time as described above (film in T90 and main "AA" batteries in camera), the shutter magnets may get improperly magnetized (presumably drawing from the main “AA” batteries) and may require a major repair. CONCLUSION: Well, it just appears to me that, to avoid these problems, you should never store the T90 for a long time with film in it. That way, you will not need to draw on either the main “AA” or internal lithium batteries to maintain the frame count and ISO for an extended period of time. ALSO, to go one step further, you should not even store the T90 with main “AA” batteries for a long time either because that may be a source for improperly magnetizing the shutter magnets. SOLUTION ???: If you plan to store the T90 for a long time, remove the film from the camera (so the frame count and ISO need not be maintained and thus there is no draw from the main "AA" or internal lithium batteries) AND remove the main “AA” batteries from the camera as well (to avoid improperly magnetizing the shutter magnets). Is this a solution? OTHERE ISSUES: As for other instances when the EEEE/Help message may appear (i.e.: taking a lens off the T90 body while the aperture on the lens is set manually to an f/stop other than the green A), that can be readily fixed as described by other members of the list and is not as serious a problem as the above. Any thoughts on the above possible solution?7. From : Richard (rfbowsher@freeuk.com)

I've commented on the idea of obtaining flash exposure compensation by adjusting the film speed and exposure compensation. I've conducted some tests using a flash meter and can report that it does NOT work! Adjusting the film speed does change the flash exposure as expected, but so does adjusting the exposure compensation. I apologies if my comments have mislead anyone. I expect my earlier practical test results were encouraging because of the E10-E13 flash output reduction. Terry - would using manual for the daylight exposure and adjusting the film speed for the flash exposure compensation work?8. From : Carlos Rivero (carivero@telcel.net.ve)

Here in Caracas Venezuela, I have two T90´s and have been very happy with them all the time. One once had a minor electric problem but was repaired at the Canon dealer workshop here in Caracas.9. From : Torkild Gude, Denmark (ildguden@vip.cybercity.dk)

Hope anyone here can help me with the electric diagram of the Canon T-90. The camera is completely dead. It has been stored for a while (without batteries) and after mounting new batteries it did not start up again. Message from dealer here: Too old!! Thanks in advance.
