The Canon T-90 System

Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Canon T-90 - Message Board/Guestbook

The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

Hi, My T90 has been out of action for the last 18 months due to shutter problems. When I pressed the shutter release I could hear a faint ticking noise and the arrow on the LCD panel would blink, but the shutter would not release (I guess this was due to dirty release magnets...etc etc). I sent the camera for repair and it was returned within a week with a note saying it was unrepairable (replacement shutter parts not available). By chance I found this message board last night. It seems as though almost everyone else has the same problem! However, I followed the advice in one message and tried to fire the shutter in stop-down mode. I couldn't believe my ears when the shutter started firing again!!! I just wanted say thanks for bringing my T90 back to life! Regards, Paul.

Nadia, Try cleaning the contacts with a pencil eraser, and if necessary, with a BRASS brush. Make sure you clean out the debris with canned air or a blower. If it doesn't work, check the A Series message board for a Guy named WInston Lowe. He, or his buddy who does camera repair may have more suggestions. Let us know how it works out. TomR.

DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME. THE FOLLOWING EXERIMENTS WERE CONDUCTED BY A TRAINED BABOON UNDER LAVATORY CONDITIONS. I've been shooting 35mm format since the mid to late 60's, and had never dropped a piece of equipment... until two weeks ago. I was reslinging the strap on my T-90 while I had a 28-105 zoom, flash bracket & flash attached. (I know, I know, I should have worked with the body only). The phone rang, I took the call, went back to work picking the camera up by THE STRAP. IDIOT. No damage to the camera, bracket or flash. Was able to repair the lens at home so the only lasting damage is a bent filter. To add insult to injury, I was on a shoot in Florida this past week, had a 500mm cat lens mounted (same T-90, these things really are built like tanks) and when moving the tripod/camera setup dislodged one of the tripod leg locks. I damaged the T-mount on the lens and the lens now focuses past infinity, and also somehow managed to shatter the dioptric adjustment eyepiece. Haven't taken the lens apart yet, so DK whether the lens is trashed. Thirty five years without incident... lucky?; two drops in two weeks... priceless. TomR, T-90 Tank Commander.

Michael - take a look at the Yahoo Canon FD group, they have the T90 parts list and diagrams in Zip format which you can download. (the URL is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CanonFD/files/Instruction%20%26%20Repair%20Manuals%20and%20other%20Resources/) It does not look easy....... Good luck, Mark.
