The Canon T-90 System |

Classic SLRs Series : |
The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

NEVER FEAR FOR I AM HERE TO SAVE THE DAY
I just check 13 canon Fd mount bodies and know what I found out when comaring them for this light box scratch you guys are talking about. Everone of the FD mount cameras I have that has a inside the mirror box interchangeable screen has these marks both of my AE-1P's do as well as both of my T90's do. And none of the others A-1 AE-1 EF FTb F-1N have this scratch. I then measured with my trusty side kick micrometer depth gauge (reading in inches to the thousands) and I find that since the bodies with the inside the mirror box interchangeable screens are also The latter of the FD mount bodies. In order to fit the frame around the screen that allows it to be removed and installed the designers had to use every tiny 1/1000th they had snice the lens mount could not be changed to allow for more room. The scratch is caused by the natural wear between the back of the lens and the flat surface in the mirror box. The softer all matte paint on the mirror box just shows the waer more then the lens does and since normally more then one lens would be mounted to the same body the wear on the lens would be less then the body.
SO STOP WORRYING IT'S normal and designed in. The fact that one T90 doesn't have this may just mean the owner of that camera only owned the one lens and did not change the lenes out. I have 43+ lenses and even with 13 bodies I do a lot of changing of lenses and both of my t90's have heavy scratches here as do my AE-1P's that my wife uses. All you did was break it's cherry Now stop worring about this and go burn some film.. Mark W. the all knowing Prince LOL2. From : JimV (stuttgart@worldnet.att.net)

Jerry, yes; both cameras use the same lens mount (FD)
Supruet, I scratched mine while changing lenses, standing up, camera here, new lens there, cap on here, new lens on there; you know-on the fly. What I did was spin the lens slightly into where the mark lined up rather than putting it in dead straight on. Oh well, I got the shot :- As far as causing any type of relection, that scratch is buryed deep within when a lens is mounted, highly improbable that it will see any light.3. Thank you Ken. However, this raises a bit of worry to me. I do mount the lense properly - the red dot on the lense aligned with the red dot on the body. Normally I use Tokina AT-X 35-70mm 1:2.8 where the mounting is different - more of a breech lock than normal FD mounting. I bought Canon FD 80-200mm 1:4 L and this one caused me this problem. Now, I am scared to mount the lense on again. I tried to look onto the lense on the mounting side and see nothing to be able to cause the scratch. The lever is clear of the plate holding the focusing screen. The scratch is a tiny but significant, tracing from the 12 O'clock position (the front of camera towards me) to the 2 O'clock position.
Do you have any idea what it is? Is it just the base of the lense construction? I saw many second hand T90s with such scratch before. I decided to buy my because there is no such a scratch. Now I caused it myself. The only thing I worry about is the effect on the picture, i.e. reflection from the light. Thanks in advance again.5. From : Ken D (kdurling@earthlink.net)

Supruet - Neither of the levers on the back of an FD lens should be at the top, 12 o'clock, position when you mount a lens, and should not collide with the bottom of the prism box. Are you absolutely sure you are mounting the lens with the red dot at 12 o'clock to begin? I actually don't know how you could do otherwise, because the bayonet recepticle that should be on top is larger than the other two. I can't imagine how you're getting one of the aperture levers to scratch the inside of the mount, but no, it definitely should not.6. From : Supruet Thavornyutikarn (st43@le.ac.uk)

Ken, Thank you for the info about Tamron AD-2 system. New question for today.
It is about the scratch that the FD lense caused on the inside of the camera mount. I noticed that the lever on FD lense will cause the scratch on the 'bulkhead' inside the top of mount (in front of the focusing screen while remove the lense from and fit the lense to the camera. Is this normal? To be honest, I almost have the heart attack while I heard the scratching noise and saw the line inside. Please help. Why are they a lot of T90s without such scratch on sale, i.e. on eBay? Thanks in advance.7. From : Ken DF (kdurling@earthlink.net)

Howard, That's news to me. There are a few adapters out there to permit use of an FD lens on an EOS camera, but I've never heard of one to mount EF lenses on an FD body. Are you sure you've heard of this? Ken8. From : Howard Rosenthal (hsrosenthal@alumni.uwaterloo.ca)

Greetings, I have a T-90 and I am looking for a way to mount AF (EOS) lenses. I understand that Canon had a very limited run of an adapter (about 500 units) and one of these would be perfect. I would settle for an aftermarket adapter if available. Any help or leads would be appreciated. (I have tried e-bay, 47th street, broadway and a couple of others with no luck).
