The Canon T-90 System |
|
Modern
Classic SLRs Series : |
The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

Thanks John. Yes the stop down mode is close to what I am used to. I is handy that the slide on the right does indicate how over/under exposed the reading is. Too bad that the LCD does not indicate the aperture. Most likely I will be using this camera in Program (if it can handle the exposure correctly).2. From : Jake Koenig (jakekoenig@hotmail.com)

My T-90 has a standard flash socket which was installed by a technician. My question is, will I damage the camera by connecting and using an old Vivitar 283 not on the shoe, but to the socket? Can anyone help me with this?3. From : John (jmllal@spacestar.net)

Mister K.: This is from Canon's Reference Guide for the Speelite 300TL:
"Many people have never heard of the T90's Stop-Down Fixed-Index mode, so a brief explanation is in order here. You can think of SDFI as match-needle manual for the T90. To use it, set the Tv mode on the T90, but set the lens aperture manually. Next, activate the stop-down lever located near the lower right corner of the lens mount. Finally, activate the meter by partically depressing the shutter release.
This lights up the white scale that was used in FEL, and allows you to adjust either shutter speed or aperture using the white bar and the triangle index. The LEDs below the picture area will display either OP, oo or CL; this indicates underexposure (OPen up), correct exposure or overexposure (CLose down). Either the scale or the LED displays can be used for reference." Granted, it's not the most intuitive process, but it's available. Hope this helps. John4. From : John (jmllal@spacestar.net)

Philip: If you live in the United States, check out Steve at Camera Clinic in Reno, NV (steven40@aol.com). He did a CLA on mine a month ago, turned it around in a week, and it's beautiful (granted, there was nothing functionally wrong with it). He also has some parts for it. John5. I have just picked up a Canon T90. I was familiar with the functionality of the unit before I purchased it. I picked it up to complement my Canon nF-1. But ... I have a question to those T90 users ...
It appears to me that shooting in full manual is not something that the designers at Canon concentrated on. Unlike my nF-1, the T90 does not indicate the aperture that has been selected on the lens nor does the sliding meter in the viewfinder show you the exposure difference between what is metered and what is configured (speed/aperture). I realise that the T90 is not a replacement for my nF-1 (in manual mode) but I thought it a little unusual that the T90 is not the easiest to use in full manual.
One other question ... can the meter/viewfinder information stay on continously without having to press any buttons ?7. From : Philip Goehring (phildottie@robsoncom.net)

I have a Canon T90 where the logic function of the camera just quit. The camera is in great shape "but for" this main problem. Can you give me a reference to a repair site where I could investigate the cost of repair. I would also be interested in selling the camera and three lenses, 70-210 mm Vivitar auto/manual focus C/FD mount f3.5 telephoto, 28 mm Vivitar auto/manual focus f22 wide angle C/FD mount and Canon auto/manual focus 50mm f1.4 - f16 lens all in excellent condition.8. The T90 is a camera that will give you great pleasure to have in your hands with comfort and nice style. It will make you become a very good photograper if you learn what it can do $ not do which is very little. Just remember that a photographer is Camera is only as good as the eye and the brain behind it. So tka e this work horse out of the stable and kik off some great photoes from a great camera. Ken9.
