The Canon T-90 System |

Modern
Classic SLRs Series : |
The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

Thanks for the info Luigi, I looked at the manual and decided to leave the shutter release connector alone for now. Everything else seems to be working fine. I cold soaked it in the freezer overnight and it started up with only one EEE and then everything was OK. I'll be looking for an old "for parts" T90 for practising on.
I have two FTb's for backup if the T90 acts up so I think a CLA will be postponed. Regards.2. From : Charles (crollinsphoto@charter.net)

I have 2 Canon T-90's and recently went digital and haven't used mine in about 6 months and now when I try to use one of them the arrow next to the Single film advance indicator blinks when I press the shutter button and nothing happens..what could be the problem and is it repairable?
The other T-90 works fine.

If the Brit on eBay is J. Wood, I can vouch that his work is spot on. He does a very good full service - CLA plus Lithium battery replacement for £70 on eBay. However if you deal with him direct (email him for address etc) you will get a very good discount and turnround is very quick.4. From : Antonio (aj_rs@hotmail.com)

Hi Mike, Sorry for the delay, I have been travelling a bit lately and I don't take my computer with me in such cases, neither check email or others. I went to Greece, Italy and Spain, and I have enjoyed so much taking pictures. About the problem you are having with the T90, I have no clue, check the button for High/Low/Single under the cover, but I guess you may have already done it.
About the brit from ebay, it seems one of the very very few that repair the EEE problem and people send their cameras to him. I would try first any repair shop in your city for convenience (and maybe price: save on stamps :-) ), there may be some you don't even know as it happened to me when I needed a small repair for my AE-1. Also, you can download from this Canon web page the technical manual, but, for me, it was a bit scary to open the camera, link: http://www.canonfd.com/choose.htm.
I agree with everybody that it is a great camera and it's worth some investment in repairing a broken unit, but I would put a maximum in the repair costs. We are not in 1986 (there have also been really great cameras after) and the years pass to everyone and everything. Finally, an Oracle question: Can film last more than 5 years?
Well, good luck with your T90, it's a machine to enjoy. BTW, I also had problems with your email, hotmail doesn't like yahoo? :-)5. From : Luigi D. Sandon (cp@sandon.it)

IronHorse, to master the 300TL I suggest to read:
http://www.canonfd.com/300ref/300ref.htm
This guide explains the 300TL modes fair better than the official manual.6. From : Ironhorse (anythingon2wheels@yahoo.com)

I don't think a 25 volt trigger voltage will hurt my T90 but can anyone verify this. I understand the Electronic's were quite significant at the time but I also know there were mods which added a standard PC sync to the unit so I'm thinking the trigger voltage contacts will hold up quite well to this relatively low output voltage. Any thoughts on this are quite welcome.7. From : Ironhorse (anythingon2wheels@yahoo.com)

This is a response from my own question dated from, Date : 10:58 AM Wednesday 30 August, 2006(message 7 on this page)
I found the broblem which caused the EEEE & other problems with my unit. It was a lens I purchased from ebay(which is currently being repaired by the seller at no cost to me) The lower lever on the lens was getting jammed thus not allowing the camera to fully stroke though it's normal travel. This let to all the problems I encountered. I verified this on my AE-1/P with the same results. I gotta tell you I was relieved to discover that one. Now if I can only master the 300TL I just bought........

I just found the answer to my Metz 60 CT-2 question regarding the adapter(s)needed.I cannot use the ttl advantage as the adapters,SCA-500-C along with the SCA-311 will not work.To get the functionality I want I'll need to go with the 60 CT-4. I can however still use the SCA-510 to set the aperture/shutter. I'm kind-of bummed as I spent all this time & money only to find out it's not compattable. The info given in the Magic lantern book on Metz flash units is incorrect. If I had the right schematic's I might be able to do some brain surgery but at this point I'm pretty much through with the whole idea. Just thought I'd give an update to my findings.9. From : Luigi D. Sandon (cp@sandon.it)

Al: no, FD lenses will not work on any EF camera, including digital ones. You can find some adapters but:
1) They will work as an extender, decreasing image quality a little (more or less, depending on adapter optical quality).
2) You will lose any exposure mode but manual stop-down.10. I have had my T-90 for many many years and have had exceptional use out of it. I have many lens for this camera and this is now my problem. I want to go to a Canon digital camera, but I don't really want to lose the use of 5 different lens I have for the T90. Will the lens I have work on any of Canon's digital cameras? Thank you
