The Canon T-90 System

Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Canon T-90 - Message Board/Guestbook

The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

This site is specifically created for this great SLR cameras by Canon. Please don't mail me other than constructive suggestions or rectifying mistakes found in this site, thanking you in advance. The respective Message Boards are some of the HARDEST hit section of the PIM site, if at any one time, the traffic is high - the table/content may take a while to load the data, just be patience. If it stalls, just click on the 'Reload' or 'Refresh' button on your browser menu once to re-attempt. Thank you.

I have some camera specific tools & am not afraid of some minor surgery. Mike
Please send email if possible.

I guess any pneumatic cable should have a valve to open to reinflate.

Hi, Could someone be so kind as to tell me how to reset the air release extension tube for a T90? I used it once, the shutter clicked, but I can't figure out how to get the small bellows to reinflate!

Ironhorse: if your unit is TTL capable you need a TTL SCA adapter for the T90 (they have four contacts, not two). If the unit is not TTL capable, you can use it the same way you do on the AE-1P with the same adapter.

If there are any users who might have knowledge of using a Metz CT-60/2 flash unit(I use this currently with my AE-1/P along with the SCA-510 adapter which auto sets the aperture/shutter speed)for use with a T90, I'd appreciate the input. It has the center contact along with 2 additional contacts which I'm thinking are for the AE settings. Thanks, Mike

AFAIK ML-3 has not FEL (nor the ML-2), in macro usually the subject is centered and fills the frame. Shutter priority works, but if it still tries to balance ambient light will keep on requiring long speeds. Some experiments is needed to find the best approach to a given subject and available light.

yeah, or even the FEL can be used! - I don't know if ML-2, ML-3 uses FEL
But what about using Tv (shutter priority) with TTL? Is it not a solution for a desired shutter speed?... George wrote something that he can only set 1/250, which I don't really get...

bronstejn: the ML-3 works with the T90 flawlessy, it looks like an EOS-upgraded version of the T90. I've got the manual from wwww.canonfd.com, and although not every clear, the "problem" is the way Canon flash are designed, in AE mode they always try to fill-in. Because when using a flash the subject exposure is controlled by aperture and flash duration, the only way to control ambient light background exposure is to change the shutter speed - changing it (within the allowed sync-speed) will not alter subject exposures.
If a more natural image is sought, AE mode is fine. If the subject against a dark or black backgroud is ok, "simple TTL" mode can be used by setting both aperture and shutter speed.

Hai raggione Luigi. George, is the Ml-3 the one that is excusive for EOS cameras? My experience is that EOS flashes usually have some limitations on the T90. Maybe the shutter speed problem you mentioned is one of them...
Though as Luigi says, when you are shooting in low light, let's say "background" should be exposed at 30s, then you can even use an 8s exposure using TTL flash - without the possibility of shaking of the image (using tripod of course). Handheld macro shots - though not impossible - sound a bit strage at 1:1 ratio. In such case rather use at least 3-4 EV faster shutter speed than ambient exposure, as highlights may be visible on the film.

George: "plain TTL" means tha camera just meter the flash light with its TTL sensor (IIRC is the spot meter) and does not attempt to balance exposure with ambient light. If the exposure will be correct for your aperture depends on subject distance.
When the ambient light is dim enough for a given shutter speed, the shutter speed itself is not important - the exposure time is given by flash light duration. The flash will tell you if the exposure is Ok, ML-2 has a green lamp to tell it, I guess the ML-3 could have something alike.
However, I would use something alike a monopod if not a tripod, the 200/4 macro is not a light lens.
To focus, you could use the flash itself, it must have a "focusing" lamps.
