The Canon T-90 System

Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Canon T-90 - Message Board/Guestbook

The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

John - given the mania for 'genuine' T-90 eyecups, if this is an original you can sell it to the obsessional for maybe almost as much as the camera! :-)

John - You can do a search on eBay for T90 or T-90 and when the results come up click on "Complete items" and that will give you an idea of what they're going for, at least there. YOu can also go to KEH and Adorama and check out their used T90 prices. Most people sell the T-90 with a 50/1.8, the 50/1.4 should bring a little more. Kd

Got a T90 from my dad.. but I'm never used anything but a digital, so I'll likely never use this one. Tempted to sell it on E-Bay, but found this site. Had my friend look at it. It seems to be in excellent condition, slightly shiny spot where thumb sits. Still has eye cup and cable release socket cover. Battery chamber seems OK and no scratches evident. Canon 50 mm F1.4 lens. Any range of what I might be able to get for it?

I heard that the 540EZ flash is compatible with the T-90 - can anyone confirm and describe what functionality is retained? Thanks ken

Mike - I see them on eBay regularly. Do a search on "T3," as that's what the socket format is called. Ken

Anybody know where I can get the little plastic cap for remote shutter release port? Lost mine and can't find replacement.

Ed Stump: I don't have an authoritative answer, but lacking that, how about a suggestion to start a discussion? I had a Nikon Coolpix 990 that developed a balky mode/on-off switch. The off position and the review pictures position (at opposite ends of the switch's rotary travel) suddenly failed to work while the two picture taking positions continued working. This is a mechanical, rotary switch with sliding electrical contacts similar to an old fashioned mechanical TV tuner. Turns out that this is a fairly common failure for CP 950/990 models and there is a widely circulated fix that consists of spraying Radio Shack TV tuner cleaner/lubricant into the switch and "working" the switch back and forth to clean the contacts. You might try depressing the button and carefully spraying a little of this cleaner fluid around the edges. You have to be somewhat careful of overspray and the switch will probably seep the cleaner for awhile, requiring occasional mopping up with a dry cloth. On second thought, instead of spraying with the aerosol can (even though it comes with one of those red plastic tubes similar to what comes on WD-40 cans), you might consider spraying some into a dish and using a sryinge (sp?) or eyedropper to apply the fluid--easier to control than the spray can. If it's a dirty or oxidized electrical contact that's causing the problem, this might clear it up without having to disassemble the camera. Mind you, I haven't tried this on a T-90, but it did work on my CP990's problem. It didn't cure it instantaneously. At first the switch started working sporadically, then more and more frequently. Now it seems to be working almost all the time. I will admit that it was a somewhat messy fix and on the CP990 the switch is isolated from the optical part of the camera. The cost of an official repair has been reported at $200 which approaches the market value of a replacement used camera and it enticed me to experiment. You may not be willing to take a similar risk with your T-90. In your risk/return calculations I would point out that working T-90's are going in the neighborhood of $260-$350 on E-bay. Non-working ones seem to bring about $100. There's a repair shop in Morgantown, WV that has gotten good remarks on this forum. Maybe someone has their contact information readily at hand? Hope this generates some discussion at least.

I have a Canon T-90. The "Mode" button on the top of the camera sticks when pushed down. Is there any lubricant that is safe to use to free up the action of this button?

Don, I forgot to mention that these pre flashes are the 300TL's way of pre determining the correct exposure.
