The Canon T-90 System

Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Canon T-90 - Message Board/Guestbook

The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

The respective Message Boards are some of the HARDEST hit section of the PIM site, if at any one time, the traffic is high - the table/content may take a while to load the data, just be patience. If it stalls, just click on the 'Reload' or 'Refresh' button on your browser menu once to re-attempt. Thank you.

Covey: what do you mean when saying the "lens does not work in automatic"? The lens is broken or what? If the lens is a Canon FD one it will work in automatic when set to "A".
If the lens has no auto feature, you can only work in manual mode. Set the aperture that suit best the situation on the lens, set the camera to Tv, and choose the appropriate shutter speed. The camera will tell you what aperture that it would use, but won't be able to set it on the lens. Not always the maximum aperture is the best to use.
You could also set the camera to Av and set the *same* aperture set on the lens, but IMHO it's not the right way.
No "program" mode will work - they need to be able to set the lens aperture - and anyway are not the best choice for such kind of images.
Be aware that the camera meter needs the maximum aperture pin on the lens mount to inform the camera of the lens aperture to work properly - otherwise only stop-down metering will work.
If you are new, be aware that kind of photography is not an easy one. Such telephoto needs a good sturdy tripod and mount to be used effectively, and experience.

I have a T-90 with a Canon 500mm f4.5 lens. The lens does NOT function in automatic.
Should I
1, leave the lens at 4.5 and change the T-90 mode to "program"?
2, leave the lens at 4.5 and change the T-90 mode to "AV"?
3, leave the lens at 4.5 and change the T-90 mode to "TV" and choose a fast shutter speed?

I will be taking shots of animals possible on the move.

I am new at this so please be elementay.
Thanks

Hi Len - Have you tried the trick I mentioned in the post directly before yours? Also sometimes removing and replacing the battery pack seems to help. When it happens I try everything, and eventually something works - so it's a little hard to trace sometimes what exactly worked! But most often I think it's the DOF button. Ken

One of my T90's won't trip the shutter. If I load a roll of film into the camera, it advances to frame one quite nicely. But then when I press the release, no action. There is, in the LCD, an arrow pointing at the S or C or 2 (I tried to use the self-timer) and the arrow just blinks. Is this a dead internal battery? I'm betting this q has been asked and answered plenty, but I tried a search and couldn't get the search function to work on the message board.
Thanks very much for your attention.
Len Cook

Rod - I've had that happen many times with one of my two T-90s. Both CLA'd within the last 2 years or so. I believe it's related to the well-known problem of the T-90s shutter magnet sticking, and maybe an early warning of that problem. Mine just about always unsticks after various things have been tried - most often it seems that depressing the DOF preview button and releasing a few times will clear it up. But it has happened at critical times and is extremely annoying, so I sympathize! Best thing is probably a service call.

Ken

I don't know if anyone has posted a question about this,if so sorry. My T90 suddenly died/froze while I was shooting outside in the winter. it wasn't that cold out and it has always performed well in cold temps,so I'm sure thats not the problem. it was shooting fine and suddenly nothing. the arrow in the LCD was flashing.I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but anytime I had problems with the camera that arrow was flashing so I'm asssuming that's not a good thing. there were no other warnings in the finder ie;Error or anything. Anyone have any idea on whats up? I'm told the electronics died in T90s from time to time.

Bill: there are still service centres and people around the world able to repair a T90, but if you don't bother to say where you live it's very difficult to give you any advice.
