The Canon T-90 System

Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Canon T-90 - Message Board/Guestbook

The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

Tim, you are pushing the credibility button a bit far, old chap. Send in your card and give the Canon clerks a laugh or two. Now there is still the question of my unused, like new, in box 1936 Waterman fountain pen(lifetime warranty it says), and the Sylvania clock radio from 1965-never registered it , a birthday gift.. Anybody know where to send those warranty cards?... Tim, use the new baby in good health. It never breaks down. If it breaks, it is sudden and terminal per Nigel, and usually can't be repaired economically for lack of parts.. Canon just sends you the latest EOS equivalent model and a letter of condolence maybe. Her grace says noblesse oblige..... Erasmus B. Black

Tim, I am dying to see whether Canon will "honour" a warranty on a camera that was discontinued almost 15 years ago. How will they know that you are the very first owner for instance? (after all these years) Do keep the list up to date with this most interesting event and rather rare event!

To Erasmus - I received my brand new T90 in the mail today. All I can say is "wow". It's brand new and is it's original condition - never used. I'm going to really enjoy this camera. Do you know if Canon will still accept the warranty card?

Michael; well over the past 5 years I would definitely say there are a lot more secondhand T90s then A1s for sale acreoss the UK.
My T90 has been returened by the repairer, H.Lehmann of Stoke on Trent as apparently there are no longer any T90 shutter units obtainable from canon UK; could anyone give me web sites or e-mail addresses of repairers who might have access to replacement shutter units.

Nigel - I am surprised that you say that A1's are rarer than T90's - surely its the other way around? In Australia I would say that you see 10 A1's before you see a T90. I still have my (2nd) A1 - originally bought one in 1981 or so, the current one was a replacement in 1983 for one stolen that year in Paris. The original only had one problem - a week before going out of warranty the LED display went haywire and was replaced under warranty. As Irwin implies, they are hardly really comparable - the T90 is definitely a better camera. But an A1 would do as a stop gap.....

Nigel: If you have one well functioning T90, I think you could do worse than buy an A-1 as a backup. It is one of Canon's successful designs. It has a good record of service too. Has many nice features, and is still repairable. It will not give you the features of the T90,such as TTL, and fast synch, but with a winder A or A2(better) it can be quite a bargain and is a serviceable FD body.. Why not write to the Camera of Japan in Norcross, Georgia, or email Horizon Electronics in California USA or Strauss in Washington, D.C. I suspect they would repair your item or respond to enquiry/inquiry.In the global economh, you use a credit card anyway. And maybe they will check it out for a nominal amount. I recall that there is someone in UK on the forum ( is it Mr Lowe) who says he works on the T90. There must be others! Maybe the shutter can be repaired. . I don't personally desire an F-1N, but they are quite nice and will last and last and last. And sometimes one can pick up a decent bargain on that model. And too the earlier mechanical F-1s had its merits, even with the need for a battery retrofit here in our healthy, mercury free land of the free and home of the brave. The options are attractive, and only take a hunt. Probably easier than finding Carmen San Diego (:-)) Erasmus B. Black, African Queen International Pty Ltd Inc.

One of my two T90s has gone sick. Does anyone know of a camera repairer in the UK who has any spare shutter units? Or is there a reapairer anywhere else in the world who might and can handle international enquiries. Secondly, if the sickness is terminal (sic), and I wnat to hang on as long as possible with my collection of FD lenses, like another 5-10 years, what would be the best bet for another body. T90s seem to die unpredictably, F1(new) is too expensive, AE1 (of which I have one)lacks features I want - what about A1 - these are much rarer than T90 but, if they are as reliable as the AE1, could go on for ever?
