The Canon T-90 System |

Modern
Classic SLRs Series : |
The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

Hi Everyone: First time on, have been a T90 user for many years bought mine new, built up a reasonable outfit and have no problems, and many years of pleasure and reliability, well that is until now. After taking it out of my bag and switching on, nothing works, completely dead, replaced batteries, still no responce. Has anyone any suggestions or can anyone recommend a good reliable place for it to be serviced in the West Midlands ? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Reg.2. Chris, I recently bought a 300TL on Ebay for $120. She ain't real pretty, and had no manual or case, but she functions perfectly. And the price was right. I have seen a mint 300TL go for over $250, with all the goodies that came with it. Just be sure to ask the right questions to the seller..condition, accessories, money back guarantee????? I've been happy with everything I've bought off Ebay. Just gotta ask those questions. And remember "If it sounds too good to be true...." I saw a guy had 2 T90's for sale not too long ago. Both were pictured in different "poses", with different accessories. He claimed that the camera pictured was specific to that auction. Funny, they both had the same serial #.....no bid from me on those..good luck4. From : Evert Doorn (edoorn.1@hccnet.nl)

Repairs in Holland. Have you tried calling Canon Netherlands and asking who and where they recommend you seek service for older products? Bet they have a list. Could be in Germany. As far as Canon supporting the T90, they did so for ten years. That's all one can expect of a manufacturer to stock parts. The fact that this board exists suggests that there are some parts available and the used market is filled with them. Canon chose to put its efforts into EOS because Minolta sprung the Maxxum in 1987 and would have creamed them otherwise. Business is business, nay?. Gird up they loins, Job,,best wishes from her grace, a sovereign in exile. Cheers EBB6. From : Chris (sigpe57@yahoo.com)

hi, I've got a major T90 problem. During a visit to N.Y.C. last week, my T90 completely locked up, with the feared EEE message on the display and HELP in the viewfinder. It functioned properly during the whole week. The thing is, I can't reset the camera. No matter what I try (removing batteries, removing lens, playing around with stop-down lever), the EEE message won't dissapear (the HELP message does) and I can't use the camera controls. It looks like the software is locked up or something. I searched trough the message board, and I haven't found a solution (or I missed it), other than hitting the base of the camera with a rubber mallet or sending the T90 to a repairshop. Can somebody please tell me what is wrong with my Tank (personally I think it's the shutter magnet or an electronics malfunction), what a possible solution might be and, if the camera needs a repair, does somebody knows reliable adress in the Netherlands? Thanks in advance. regards, Evert Doorn

I could be wrong but I think Canon sure misses the boat. When I got my first T90 and became a such a fan of the camera I wrote to Canon and asked why they did not do more to support those who buy thier products. Without that much effort on Canons end they could do so much to help we t90 owners or any other Canon product and build huge fan loyalties for thier products. The camera is great but the company only cares about the next sale. Oh well.9. From : Ketil Johansen (ketiljo@stud.ntnu.no)

Jean-Marc,
I have just replaced the lug on my T90. I ordered a replacement from Canon. The part number is CG9-2676-000. It is called a switch panel assembly. Originaly it was a part of the switch panel behind the hinged door on the left hand side.
You have to take the top cover off. Easy enough, take the front cover off first. Then the cover over the door lock. Be careful with the spring inside. Then take the top cover off. Don't rip it off, then you'll pull of the wires to the hot shoe.
Take the backdoor off, and remove the hinge. There's two more screws that hold the switch panel.
So the tricky part. The part Canon supplies is no longer a part of the switch panel anymore. The old lug was a week point. So you have to machine it down. I used a hacksaw, and a file to make the surface smooth. I also glued the lug to the panel using two component epoxy glue. Seems to be much stronger than screwing the part together. You have file the panel absolutely flat on the top in order to make a strong connection.
I have no ide if Canon supply a new switch panel, but this works pretty good for me.
BTW, while you have the top cover off, you might modify the camera to leave the leader of the film out after rewinding.
This is done by shorting two solder pads with solder. They are located on the left side of the prism, on the lower flex (page 3 in the service manual).
Then assemble the whole thing, and run out to take pictures again.
The T90 service manual can be downloaded from: http://www.canonfd.com/choose.htm
with regards,
Ketil

Hi T90 addicts,
While I was jumping from a boat (less than 2 feet height), my T90
sufferred from the jerk and the plastic right neckstrap lug
broke into 3 pieces. I was fortunate enough to catch the T90
before its crash on the ground, and I could finish my trip
with a temporary repair using a second neckstrap around the body to "replace" the ruined lug.
I have read on the Web that Canon used to replace this platic lug by a brass one, but people in my local Canon shop (Paris, France)
and not aware of it.
Has any one experimented this situation ? Is there any possibility to insert and solidly fix a brass lug ?
Thanks for any hint
Best
Jean-Marc
