The Canon T-90 System |
|
Modern
Classic SLRs Series : |
The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

I'm using a T90 for some time together with 6 FD-lenses. One of them; a 28,2.8 is suffering from a geasy diafram. Having it repeared will cost me more than buying a used 28mm, so I decided to clean it myself. Can anybody tell me where I can find a free construction manual? Greets, Pim2. Jorge & Torsten, GIve us some more information. Describe which setting you each have the camera and the flash set to, and what the readings in the viewfinder are. Also, make sure that the 300TL is properly mounted to the T-90. I've had weird readings at times when I had the flash mounted well enough to tell the camera the flash was mounted and it would fire, but the connections for the more advanced features weren't mating properly. let us know what you get. We're glad to help when we can. TomR.3. From : Mike (anythingon2wheels@yahoo.com)

I currently own a Metz CT-60/2 flash unit and I'm looking into purchasing a T90. I have the sca510 adapter which works nicely with my AE-1 Program and would like to know if this adapter can be used on the t90 as well. It has 3 contacts beside the usual center contact. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Mike4. From : Torsten Fokuhl (Torsten@ger.pt.com)

I just got a new 300TL via ebay for my Canon T90 that I also bought used: To my surprise, flash an camera do communicate, but sync time seems to be locked to 60 sec and FEL does not seem to work: I suppose that one of the pins connecting flash and camera is not working; the flash seems to get any required information from the camera (syncing to 2nd curtain [selected on the flash!] works fine, test flashes are released), but the camera seems to "see" only a standard flash (time always 60 sec).
Is there a trick to check whether it is a fault of the flash or the camera, any electrical measuring possible? Thank you in advance, if there's an answer, I suppose it can be found in this forum of experts and enthusiast! Best regards from Hamburg, Germany Torsten5. From : Jorge Sanchez (jsbrambila@mail.com)

I have 2 T90 cameras and recently bought a 300TL Flash on ebay. When I use the flash on program setting it works perfectly, but when used on select mode (A-TTL & FEL) I have the same problem described by Jeff. If I select TV 250 shooter speed the flash releases but the picture is overexposed because it does not read the flash light. This happends in both cameras. Does anyone know what´s happening or what am I doing wrong? Sincerely, Jorge6. From : TomR (tomrdale@aol.com)

Jeff, If I understand your question correctly, it sounds like your T-90/300TL system is functioning normally. When using the 300TL's A-TTL function with the camera set to either TV or AV mode, you will get the readings you report when shooting indoors under ambient light. Check and see if you get the same or similar readings with the flash turned off. The A-TTL function in combination witht he camer's AV or TV mode is used for fill flash so it is only suitable for outdoor daylight work, or indoors with supplemental lighting.
If you shoot in A-TTL mode with the camera set to Program mode you will get meter readings the same, or close to those you'll get with both the camera and flash set to Program, which defeats the fill flash function of the 300TL. Let us know if the above answered you question. TomR.7. From : Jeff Finegold (law@conveyancing.co.uk)

T-90 and 300 TL. With Flash set to ttl mode on either aperture or shutter priority I'm getting either really long exposure times-1second plus Av or the flashing aperture indicator in the viewfinder showing f1.4 isn't enough (with 200 iso fim) I've seen some similar questions in archive but the way the questions are arranged I can't find if anyones answered them. Help please!8. From : John Lowe (john.lowe40@ntlworld.com)

Dear George, we can get 1/250 sec sync speed with SCA 311 by setting camera in Av or Tv modes and set a flash to TTL or M mode. If you set camera in Tv mode, the aperture must be set manually on the lens while you can set any speed not faster than 1/250 sec via camera control dial. If you set camera in Av mode, you can change aperture using camera control dial (lens set to A) and sync speed will automatically set by a camera to default 1/250 sec. However, if you set a flash to A mode, you will get default 1/90 sec sync speed and the aperture will be set automatically in accord with aperture set on the flash (lens set to A).
If SCA 3101 and 3102 are not work, it seems like the only way to get fill-in TTL flash with T90 is using 300TL (or Canon speedlite EZ series?). For Metz, the SCA 311 is really not practical for this purpose, the better way is using standard adapter (SCA 301) and set flash to A mode. We will loss all dedicated function including TTL flash metering but can do automatic fill-in flash in A mode, the things we have to do is setting aperture on camera (Av mode) to the same as on the flash (or differ for flash exposure compensation) and see the shutter speed to not exceed 1/250 sec, the result is very good in most cases.
I cannot find 300TL in my country then bought it from eBay. Now I use both of them depend on working purpose and situation. I use 300TL when need automatic fill-in TTL or FE lock but use Metz when want to use secondary reflector or automatic fill-in with flash exposure compensation. Cheers, Medhi.

Ken
