The Canon T-90 System

Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Canon T-90 - Message Board/Guestbook

The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

Gerni: "standard dioptric adjustment -1" means that "as is" - without any additional lens - the T-90 finder works like a -1 diopter. It's the finder itself, no lens is mounted in the "standard" eyecup. Additional lens will work at the nominal value only when mounted on the camera.

The rectangular mount of the T-90 eyepiece is identical to those of some A and EOS cameras (many accessoires like angle finders will fit all of them), before buying an eyecup I will try if it fits - EOS cameras eycups are still available in shops therefore there is no hurry to buy one on the Internet.

Still love my T90. it is such a workhorse. BUT, the wlippage of the wheel control is getting annoying. It can be ten clicks of more to get one change. A search of the archives here turned up the suggestion of just turning it a bunch and hoping the contacts will get cleaner. Anything more than that? Could I try shooting a little compressed air down into the wheel well or something? Thanks.

Alessandro -

The T-90 has a built-in motor drive with 2 speeds - 2 fps and 5 fps. The control is under the palm door, and the indicator is in the top LCD - H and L for High and Low. Just set the camera to the rate you want and fire away! Might take a little practice, though . . . ;-)

Hello everyone,

sorry to bother.
I just bought a Canon T90 and I'm a big fan of Snowboard.
Is it possible to make sequential pictures of a jumping rider ?
And if yes, how...?

Grazie mille.

Alessandro

Dear Ken
thank you very much for answering. I found on this page that the T90 has a "Dioptric Adjustment: Built-in eyepiece is adjusted to standard -1 diopter" (http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/canont90/htmls/spec.htm). What does this mean ? I also found on a german website that a canon eycup EC II fits (http://www.fotokoch.org/slr/12032.shtml). It is sold there for 12,95 Euros. Do you know about this EC II ? Or does anybody know about this ?
Thank you very much for answering

Gerni -

I could be wrong, but I don't think T-90s were originally sold with diopters, since they're such a personal thing, coming in different strengths as they do. You need to know the right strength for your vision, and you can probably fin d a T-90 diopter eyecup on eBay.

It's true that you can use the EOS ED-II eycup, but I don't think that comes with a diopter since variable diopters are now built into the EOS viewfinders. The "A series" eyecup is a plain round one, no diopters to my knowledge, and although they do fit, they interfere with the opening and closing of the film door. Some people cut off the bottom 1/3 or so to clear the door.

I bought a second hand T90. Everything worked fine, but now I lost the eyecup an my pictures are not sharp anymore (I wear glasses normaly). So I have two questions: Is it right that all eyecups which were sold with the camera had a diopter -1 ? I heard that the eyecup of the EOS 1 and Eos 1n fit to the T90 and could work and also the eyecups of the A-models. Is that right ? Thank you for answering.
