The Canon T-90 System |
|
Modern
Classic SLRs Series : |
The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

I guess I didn't make myself clear enough. I was shooting on the bulb setting and forgot to take the lens off of "A".

I just got back from shooting some Fireworks, and made the mistake of leaving the lens on "A" mark. The manual says I have to set the apeture manually. But in this case I forgot. Does anyone know what will happen. Is the default apeture wide open for the lens? In this case it's 2.8.
Anyway thanks,

Irwin Schmendrick here. For Steve, you joker, so you won't have to search a thousand and one threads: The 283 won't blow up the camera, but why bother with it or some no name flash you mention. I won't repeat your technical reasons , I mean like they put me to sleep already. Buy a 300TL. For Allan boobele, the fact that the T90 is so expensive (if I read your concern under all that shmooze,, is because of Harvey Lipshitz's Law of supply and demand. (That which is hotly sought in the marketplace commands a high price.) The real question is why does a nice 15 year old camera still fetch same shekels as it was brand new in 1986 (not accounting for monetary inflation blah blah blah.) Actually, better maybe to compare the T90 used price to the EOS A2 new on the shelf, and you see they are about the same (Oy a bigger mystery boychikel). That tells you that the camera is technically equal maybe to the latest EOS model but if you read the spiel on this site, let's you use ALL the FD lenses which Irwin and others still love, like Spielberg's robot boys which we have bonded with and aint gonna leave out in the woods at night. That's the best answers you guys are gonna get. Next question!!!!
As alway, your humble servant, Irwin Schmendrick, Purveyor of Kosher Delicacies and Dog Treats. PS: The T90 is a sexy looking camera, not to be overlooked. And that shutter sound is like gold to mine ears...4. From : Allan Passmore (allan@bigpond.net.au)

I have been planning to upgrade my old SE-1 program to a T-90, because of the latter's more advanced features. I didn't plan to buy a more modern camers because I don't really need AF.
However, on looking at prices on ebay, I noted that the prices for F-1s, T-90s, and F-5s described as excellent, are all about the same (about $400-$500).
On the face of it, each of these three cameras is technically more advanced than its predecessor.
Can anyone explain why they are all about the same price? Is it just that the F-1 and the T-90 are classics, or is it that they are in some way superior to the F-5?
Thanks
Allan

PS: I forgot to say below that mirror lockup is not a real world consideration for field macro work of three dimensional subjects or even camera stand work up to 1 to 1 ratio I have found.. The concept of MLU is to lower camera mirror induced vibration. The reality is that in macro work you are not going to worry about that because it will be your" subjects" that vibrate more than the camera.. A T90, which has a well damped mirror, with a Canon Angle Finder B, and a Bellows unit or a macro lens with a sliding focus rail (check out Novoflex) and a solid Bogen or Gitzo tripod will be your kit if I may presume, my antipodal friend.. As I recall, the F-1 New does not even have MLU. People who buy them talk about their "jewel like quality" and how they can hammer tent stakes with them. Great. But they use their T90s 3X as much! Do yourself a favor and buy two T90's. One as a backup. Sell the AE-1 Program. You will have outgrown it. No charge for foregoing advice. E.B.Black. Opinionated like all NorthAmericans. good luck, sincerely. EBB.7. From : Steve S. (svslr@aol.com)

I love this board. Regarding flashes for T-90: I have been using a Vivitar 283 I bought new one year ago, with great results, with T-90 on full manual. Should I worry about the flash trip voltage messing up the camera? My dealer has some auto flashes for the EOS models, ProMaster, I believe, does anyone have any info on them? Much thanks. SS8. To Alan Passmore: Buy a T90 and forget the Canon F-1. Thats it, period. There is no such thing as the BEST manual body. The two cameras are different entitities. And you are not a wildlife photojournalist. Classic, shmassic, that is BS talk! If you were going to spend the next five years in the Australian outback tracking wild wilderbeests youd get the mechanical/ indestructible, operates with low battery input but rock solid Canon F-1. And its humungus motor drive and speed finder (nice for macro however) and that crap...If you are a graduate from an AE-1 program model and you can't see the advantages of a camera like the T90 from the info on this here site, then you are hopeless. Forgive my rudeness, but cost is a dumbass yardstick for picking a camera. And if you want to chit chat on the camera value/market value business, I don't think this board will get you any closer to a decision just neurotic confusion.. If I had the money I would buy two T90's and no F-1. None. And I used to own the original F-1. It is history. Forget that model, it has teflon gaskets and that kind of poop, big deal,,,I dont sit under waterfalls.. See, Erasmus is never wishy washy on his favorite tool, Well, actually my second favorite took if you take my meaning, mate.:-)..Cheers, Erasmus B Black, companion to her grace, the african queen.9. rayjay,
My "fix" doesn't treat a "blinking arrow" problem but only EEE/HELP (accompanied with prolonged film advancing noise) - "stacked shutter" malfunction. Hope you will have a solution for your T90.
