The Canon T-90 System

Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Canon T-90 - Message Board/Guestbook

The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

I grabbed my T90 to do a job and found the shutter to be jammed. I get an EEE message in the LED and a HELP in the viewfinder. Any suggestions?

Could you point me in the direction of any literature/ websites on using the Canon T90? Techniques and tips on different approaches to photography when using this camera? I am a relative newcomer to this model and I have read alot on how it works, but I don't have any info on how to get the best from it....

George Robertson - In answer (maybe) to your questions: 1) The T-90's viewfinder display indicated the aperture the camera would choose for the selected shutter speed, NOT the aperture set on the lens, even in manual mode...So for manual settings you set the shutter speed, look in the viewfinder display for the aperture, and set it on the lens (Yes- maybe Canon could have done it better). In all other (i.e. auto)modes (apart from stop-down metering), leave the lens set to "A". 2) Maybe the above answers this question??? Does this help? Cheers. Mark.

Mark, Thank you very much for your reply, greatly appreciated. I have tried your suggestions but unfortunately without success. I have sent an email to John Lowe who has posted a page on this site to say contact him for advice. Hope he can help. Many thanks again. Reg. (Wheeler)

Hi, I've just bought a T90 body. This is an upgrade from my AV1, which I'm quite happy with apart from a bit of rust and the occasional choice of shutter speed. Now, with the AV1 I have quite a few lenses. The odd FD lens (50mm 1.8 etc) and quite a few others; Tokina etc. I'm looking for a couple of new (to me) lenses such as the 50mm 1.2 but need to use the old ones just now. I'm seeing a few things with the old lenses and the T90...
1) the 'wrong' aperture value. That is, the aperture ring and the camera don't agree. 2) no aperture linkage at all Now, can I use these (I guess, older) lenses in 'stop down' aperture priority? Or, will I have to go manual. I apologise for the daft questions ;-) kind regards, george robertson

Reg Wheeler - This is a common problem with T-90s not being used for a while, there a a few things you can try (look back through the previous postings for suggestions, but things like pressing the stop down lever, dismounting the lens, changing the film advance mode, even gently(!) tapping the base of the camera). If all else fails, there is a guy called John Lowe in the UK who posted his email address on here some time ago (I haven't used him myself but I intend to once I get some time I can be without the camera). I think Jessops can still get T-90s repaired, the last time I checked it was £120ish for a full service....Hope this helps, Mark.

To Greg: Yes, the ringlights are said to work in TTL mode with the T90. I got no reason to doubt the literature on that. And you can also use other Canon Speedlites for such closeups, better the smaller power units though woth the dedicated cable for off shoe flash.. Buy with confidence. TTL is Canon's T90 gift to the closeup shooter. Irwin, House of Irwin. Kosher Delicacies and Dog Treats, Photo Maven of the Year for the Bronx

I am pursuing the art of close-up (macro) photography of flowers, butterflies, insects, etc. I've been using an A-1 with a Phoenix ringflash and have had moderate success. I'm wanting to switch to the T90 to utilize TTL flash functions. While searching for a camera that will automatically set the flash or aperture, I ran across literature concerning the T90. I wish to use a ringflash and would like to know if the ML-2 or ML-3 Canon ringflash will function automatically with the T90. In this manner, I won't have to manually set the F-stop. I also need a camera that will sync the flash at 1/125 or 1/250. Has anyone had experience doing this type of photography with the T90? I would prefer buying a T90 since I have several FD macro lenses. Any help or information would be appreciated. Thanks.
