The Canon T-90 System

Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Canon T-90 - Message Board/Guestbook

The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

Jeff, take a look at old posts in this forum, they should give you all the answers. It's not the internal battery though. More likely the shutter relase magnets that needs cleaning. A good cla will do the trick. Ketil

I bought a T90 new back in the late 80's, and have loved it! Last week, for the first time ever, I had a problem with it. When I took the camera (which I don't often use) out of the camera bag, and loaded film into it, I found that it wouldn't take any pictures. When I press the shutter release button, the triangle next to the word "SINGLE" on the LCD display panel blinks. I've tried replacing the AA batteries, as well as checking all the other modes and can't seem to find the problem. I have never taken the camera in for service, and wonder if the internal battery could be low. Any thoughts or suggestions? I'm anxious to get my favorite camera working again... Also, anyone with information on good places to look for lenses & accessories for the T90 feel free to forward them - I've always kicked myself for not investing a little more in the package way back then... - Jeff J.

Aimee: I purchased two T90s in 1990, brand new, from B+H. The first was $500, the second, a month later, was $480.

Mike: I'm in the Atlanta area, and have used Camera Repair Japan for all of my CLA's and repairs on other models. Fortunately, I haven't to repair either of my tanks! They did quote $130.00 for a full CLA/overhaul on the T90 - I asked before I bought them, as I use my cameras hard (landscape and wildlife work) and do a CLA about once a year - that's a fair example of maintenance cost without any repairs beyond what the overhaul would cover.
The website is

Aimee: I don't know what the T90 cost new. Check out the online Canon Camera Museum (sorry, don't have the URL handy - Google ought to find it) and look at the T90 in the "Camera Hall." They publish what the list price of the camera was in Yen. Any of the online currency converters will do the conversion, in today's dollars of course. But, it should give you an idea of the range.

My dad has a T90 which he purchased in the mid-80s. I was wondering about how much it would have cost at that time. Thanks!

Mike, Try Morgantown Camera and Video Repair 800-564-9284, www.mcvr.com. They charged me $90.00 US over a year ago. Despite heavy use since then it still performs like a new camera.

My tank has been well used since 1986. Now when I turn it on and shoot one frame it reports EEE on the LQD read out. If I turn it off and on it will shoot one more frame and then the same thing. I understand that inactivity is the enemy of electronics and it hasn't been used in several months. It is used mostly in a marine environment, which I'm sure doesn't help the situation. I've had a quote of $185.00 to repair the camera. I'm sure the unit is worth the cost of repair. (I think it is the finest SLR I have ever owned, bar none, including high end AF models).
My question is this; does this quote seem to be reasonable.

I have recently stumbled upon some references and web sites about the Ikelite lite-link slave flash trigger. It's supposed to maintain TTL for any remote TTL capable flash if you use a TTL flash on the camera to trigger it. Apparently it has two sensors, one to detect the start of the main flash and another to detect when the trigger flash is quenched whereupon it quenches itself as well. I guess since the camera sees both flashes through its TTL metering, it is not fooled and accounts for both flash exposures. If it works, it sounds like a very convenient alternative to the off-shoe adaptors and cables otherwise necessary for TTL multi-flash. I think these trigger go for about $100 or so. Not much different than the adapters and cables needed to do it the old-fashioned way. Has anyone on the board tried one of these gizmos? Did it work OK?
