The Canon T-90 System |

Modern
Classic SLRs Series : |
The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

Would anyone know what would cause the "eyepiece shutter lever" to jam on my Canon T90? It is now in a permanent locked position and I am unable to use the viewfinder. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? The camera has been used almost daily since 1986 and I need it for a shoot tomorrow! Thanks.2. From : Ken D (kdurling@earthlink.net)

Thanks Mickey. Already did that. Replaced the batteries anyway, cleaning sounds like a good idea. For now it seems to be fine, but we'll see when these batteries die down. I did discover that I had forgotten that I had swapped the good Li batteries out to my flash in an emergency at a wedding, replacing the T-90's with some cheap dime store AAs that could find quickly. I'm betting that was it, and that now I have Li AAs back in there it will be fine. Ken3. From : Mickey Oberman (mickeyobe@internetlook.ca)

Ken D: May I suggest for starters that you meticulously clean all contacts on your battery holder and in the battery compartment. Then install fresh batteries. The solution might just be that simple.4. From : Ken D (kdurling@earthlink.net)

Experiencing some occasional irregular behavior with my T-90. I suspect it is battery level-related, but does not correspond to published descriptions. What's happening is that occasionally I will get a strange kind of slow, more labored, advance - sounds more like an MA drive than the T-90's usual quick whir - and I will notice that the "S" (single shot) arrow is flashing. Turning the camera off and back on again usually clears it up. Now I know the camera has a provision to switch automatically to Low Speed continuous when the batteries get to a certain level, but I am not in continuous drive mode. My battery check shows two bars - one down from full charge, and according to the manual it should still work fine in this state.
Questions are: has anyone else experienced this? Is it possibly a sign of some developing problem, like a sticking shutter magnet? Would the shutter magnet's operation be influenced by battery level? At what battery level does the continuous drive switch over to Low?
I have yet to correlate the problem to any exposure problems. There was one roll on a recent trip that came out extremely dark, and I know I experienced a little of this problem on that trip, but I honestly can't say whether it was on that roll or not. Having just experienced it on a more recent roll, I am going to watch for exposure problems on that one. ( My first roll of Velvia 100F, by the way. Can't wait to see it.) I wouldn't suspect any relationship except for that one roll that came out underexposed. TIA, Ken5. From : Edson Costa (phutur@superig.com.br)

Just bought 2 T 90's and a spare nonworking body for spare parts. Can sell a remote control 60T3 and a databack, both for 400USD. Shipping costs to US insured would be around 20 USD Air shipped. I am in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil6. From : Ken D (kdurling@earthlink.net)

Ignacio - The Vivitar lens should act just the same if it is an FD mount lens, on or off the "A"uto mark. Sometimes you have to depress a small button to get it to go into Auto. I have 3rd party lenses by Vivitar, Tokina and Tamron, and they all act identically to a Canon lens in this respect. HTH Ken7. From : Ignacio (igdrocchi@hotmail.com)

Ken , Thanks for the help. It´s just what you said but how can I manage to do the same without Canon lenses ? I have a Vivitar 28-105mm macro lens besides the 50 mm original and this seems not to be recognized by the camera althought mounting is compatible. By the way, what kind of flash do you recomend nowadays to use with ?8. From : Ken D (kdurling@earthlink.net)

Ignacio - Put the mode on Tv, and take the lens off of the A or green dot. You will see an "M" in the viewfinder, indicatiung the camera is in manual mode. Now your shutter speed is controlled by the wheel, and the aperture by the lens ring. The camera's meter will still indicate a recommended EV based on the shutter speed you have set, but for true full manual you'll be using a handheld meter anyway, right?9. John - given the mania for 'genuine' T-90 eyecups, if this is an original you can sell it to the obsessional for maybe almost as much as the camera! :-) look back at message no.5 (which I did by accident) and see how someone sold one for $122 on EBAY
