The Canon T-90 System

Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Canon T-90 - Message Board/Guestbook

The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

This site is specifically created for this great SLR cameras by Canon. Please don't mail me other than constructive suggestions or rectifying mistakes found in this site, thanking you in advance. Hi, I am hoping that someone can give me some advice on a distressing situation...

Steve: I'm puzzled at your dilema. I once dropped from car-top height my AE-1 smack on the lens without any damage whatsoever except for the haze filter which of course was toast. First off and you must realize I'm a new owner of this Magnificent Machine(about a month now)the eeee thing your experiencing I believe is normal as the manual itself states as much when using the stopdown lever in this manner. I've done it myself. With such a short/soft fall it seems unlikely you've done anything really serious though there is indeed a problem.I wouldn't dry fire it anymore though as you may compound the problem. If this were mine what I'd do is loosen the mount(is this the old breach lock mount or new style)somewhere in between where it unlocks and the red dot & then move the lens off "A" and alternate between ratcheting in both directions the aperture & then moving the mount a little further then go back to the aperture etc. You may, by doing this be able to work it free......It's just an idea, give it a try. Regards, Mike

Hi, I am hoping that someone can give me some advice on a distressing situation... The other day my T-90 fell from my couch onto a carpeted floor. It was less than half a metre drop, and I thought it would be ok as I've seen cameras survive much worse knocks, but now the lens (70-210 F4)is stuck to the camera! When I try to detach the lens, it will not rotate all the way to the red dot, it stops about 1cm away. I am too scared to force it in case I break something inside the lens, or even worse - the camera.
There are 2 other symptoms too:
-Now the aperture ring won't turn through it's entire range - only between F32 and F8.
-Now the screen says EEE if I press the stop-down lever but returns to normal if I release it.

The shutter still fires, and everything sounds normal to me when i press the shutter button, though I haven't tried to put a film through the camera since the accident. I hope someone out there knows something about this problem and how to fix it, as I suspect repair costs at a shop could be more than the value of the camera. Thanking you in advance, Steve Australia

Ed: This probably makes me something of a Luddite, but the T90 is the only camera I own. So, yes, I take it with me whenever I shoot. I have six lenses ranging from the 17 f/4 to the 300 f/4, and enjoy it all immensely. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean I shoot on a "regular" basis. My free time seems to be at a premium these days (or I spend it on other endeavors). I shot fireworks on July 4, then at my mother's because she was receiving an award. Before that, the last time I picked it up was sometime last fall. Not my choice to shoot so seldom, but that's the way these things go. If I can pick up another body cheaply, I'll throw it in the car, which should increase my shooting frequency. I hope. John

How many actually use their T90's on a regular basis? Not only have I returned from digital back to film, but I am contemplating purchasing a 24/1.4 L FD and use this and the T90 as constant companions during my travels. Currently own just a 50/1.4 FD.

Mike - And if you want to quote what you're replying to, you have to cut and paste - there's no automation. So it helps if you at least address the person you're replying to... Ken

Ivan - It take it it stays jammed even when you remove the lens? If so, I guess I'd take it to repair. ken
