The Canon T-90 System |

Modern
Classic SLRs Series : |
The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

John, I think something may have been amiss with the roll of film that rewound half way through. Something caused sufficient tension on the film to make the T90 sense that it was at the end of the roll. Or you may have inadvertently pressed the rewind button under the wing flap. I would suggest that you carefully blow out and clean the inside of the camera and continue shooting as usual. If the problem should occur again then you might consider a service person. Mickey2. I bought a used t90 in decent codition and have shot 5 or 6 rolls through it with satisfying results. One problem is that one of the rolls was rewound half way through. I only shot twelve pictures on a twent-four roll. Is this a comon problem? Is it a easy repair? Thanks for any info.3. From : Luigi D. Sandon (cp@sandon.it)

Thank you, Greg. The lens monunt and stop down lever was just minor fixes, loose screws and a the lever pin got out from its site, following the service manual I removed the front cover and fixed those small issues. It looks to me that camera sustained a strong impact, or I do not understand how the lever could jump out from its coupling. For the shutter, if it is just a matter of "cleaning" the magnets I'd ask the Canon Repair Centre in Milano - they made a CLA on my A-1 just a couple of years ago, and repaired a FD 300/4 a few months ago, if no spare parts are needed I think they could do it. Otherwise I'll send it to some abroad service-4. From : Greg Campbell (ggeonerdd@yahoo.com)

Luigi, I'm sorry that I don't know of of any shops in Europe. Here's a short explaination of the shutter problem. http://www.canont90.com/pages/6/index.htm These guys offer very reasonabe repair rates. I'm not aware of any customer feedback, for better or worse. Give them a call. Camera Clinic in Reno, Nevada, has historicaly done T90 repairs. If 'Steve' is still there, they should do a good job. (775) 829-2244 If the camera is in otherwise clean/solid condition, I'd gladly pay $125 to get it up and running. The "Tank" is an EPIC camera! ;) -Greg5. From : Luigi D. Sandon (cp@sandon.it)

A friend of mine gave me his father's T-90, because it was "not working". I got it for spare parts. However, I gave it a try. I find out it had a loose mount, a stuck stop down lever, and occasionally it displays the "help" error message. I was able to easily fix the first two problems myself, now I wonder why sometimes it show the error message (usually using long exposure times) but after removing the batteries it works again. Is it a sign of a failing electronics, or maybe just a dirty shutter? On the latter case it may be worth a CLA, and to be put at work again...6. From : Roger Dumas (Actngalt@sover.net)

Are there any proven methods to fix the shutter magnet sticking problem for the T-90 short of the repair bench? If the bench is necessary, what is done exactly to fix this problem? I just purchase a nice looking T-90 with this annoying disease.7. From : daz (daz.clark@blueyonder.co.uk)

A camera repair shop In Glasgow (around 60 miles from where I live) has given me an estimate of £30-£40!!! A lot better than the first one of £100 that my local dealer quoted me, and guess what? It's the same repair shop that my dealer would have sent the lens to, some mark up on that one :-( Don't think I'll shop there again!!!8. From : Mickey Oberman (mickeyobe@sympatic.ca)

Daz, It sounds like you have found your problem but I don't think springs increase their tension with wear or age. I rather suspect that the lubricant is the culprit. I do not think it should be too expensive to remove the old gunk and replace it with someting better. Shop around a bit. There have been several letters on this site in the past about Canon's heavy handed use of lubricants. Mickey9. From : daz (daz.clark@blueyonder.co.uk)

Hi Herb, this probably wont be it but have a look on the front of the T90, just below and slightly to the right you will find a button, make sure it is over to the right, if not push it to the left and then release it and it will move back to it's home position. It's the stop down lever for depth of field preview .10.
