The Canon T-90 System

Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Canon T-90 - Message Board/Guestbook

The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

Yes the Macrolite ML-2 is the critter you want to use with the T90 BUT a couple of workds of warning this flash only fits (bayonets onto) lenses that use a 58mm filter And that ain't very many. There are a couple of assesories you need to be able to mount the flash on a 52mm or 55mm lens. They are the:

Macrolite adapter 52
Tightening ring 52

Macrolite adapter 55
Tightening ring 55

No other sized adaters are made by Canon that I can find. BUT you can make your own with some careful filing down of a Cokin filter mount adapter to cut the bayonets into it like on the front of a lens. The other ring of the A series mounting adapters from COKIN are the perfect size to fit the flashes bayonet. These can be found in most camera shops and all over ebay. I have three lenses this flash will fit none of which are suited to Macro very well. 55mm f1.2 chromenose 50-135mm f3.5 nFD and 80-200mm f4.0 zoom. It fits on the end of my Tokina 90mm f2.5 Macro with just a thin cardboard being used as a shim to tighten the fit between the flash inner ring and the nose of the lens.

I am looking for a Canon Macrolite for the T90. I think, it should be Macrolite Ml-2. Are there any out there? Thanks! Erich

Thanks for the Canon date code info... much appreciated.. Anyone aware of any How-To documentation for lens cleaning and rebuilding? Also, know what type of lubricant Canon recommends for FD systems?... Thanks again

Brian, I'm going from memory here so I may be slightly off, but: The battery is under the top cover on the side of the prism next to the LCD display; while I believe you can lift the top cover up enough to access it, the battery itself is soldered to the flex circuit board as I remember.

Hi groups - This won't matter to many of you, but I'm moving to another apartment, and Earthlink tells me it will take 2-4 weeks to transfer my DSL over, so I will be offline for that time. I'm hoping for better, but wanted to alert the groups I frequent, especially those in which I exercise my much-vaunted moderator status! ;-) Anyway, I'll hold off for a cou0ple of days so anyone who wants to can contact me before the tranfer if needed. I will also periodically check my email from another computer, but that won't be all that often. Thanks.

Does anyone know if Canan USA or other has a Serial Number Database somewhere? It would be very helpful if a web site existed where you could enter a S/N of a lens, camera or whatever, then have it display all info such as, build date, number of units sold etc...
Any ideas???

Hello everyone, Would anyone know how to change the internal Memory Back Up Battery in the Canon T90? The Manual specifies BR-1225 or CR-1220 Batteries. There must be a better method than taking the Body into a Canaon Service Center. Any advise would be appreciated. Enjoy the World of Canon!Brian

Thank you Mark. You did safe my days (LOL). You are right. I made up my mind last night about this and enjoy the T90 with its lenses. Luckily, the first roll gives a stunning pictures (just got it from the lab this morning). It seems that T90 and FD lense can easily keep up with new EOSs (if not beat them). Nice to have the clear and detailed explanation regarding the scratch too.

Howard there is NO WAY to mount an EF EOS lens to a FD moun body as the diamentions of the mount will not allow any type of adapter to be made the EF is much to large to fit into the FD hole. The only 2 adapters that Canon ever made between these to styles of mount are the 1.2X FD lens to EF body (sold only thru the Canon Proshop)this will only work with lenses over 200mm and the 200mm f2.8 IF nFD and then only those without the square rear baffle same problem as the 1.4X-A extender. This adapter has an optical element or elements that give a 1.2X magnification and corrects for the stand off needed to put a FD mount lens to a EF mount body. The other which is more common is only good for macro work as it has no optical elements and was designed to allow the FD range of bellows and macro equipment to be used on a EF moun body. There are a few FD mount lens to EF body third party adapters as far as I know NONE of these has an optical element in thier construction and could only be used at Macro distances.

THERE IS NO EF LENS TO FD MOUNT ADAPTER PERIOD.
THERE IS ALSO NEVER GOING TO BE A DIGITAL BACK FOR A FD MOUNT CAMERA.
THERE IS NEVER GOING TO BE A BETTER MANUAL FOCUS CAMER SYSTEM THEN THE CANON FD SYSTEM BIG PERIOD>>

Mark W. Up late and frisky
