The Canon T-90 System |
|
Modern
Classic SLRs Series : |
The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

Luigi,
I have a manual (the owner does anyway) and he didn't know how to get it out of "manual" mode either. I figured it out, but the shutter still won't do it's thing. I suppose it's possible it has something to do with whatever the shutter issues have been or the internal button battery.... I don't know. The closest POSSIBLE location for service would be an hours drive one way and I just don't have time for that.
I've decided to NOT get the camera set up. It comes with alot of stuff, and I know the cameras potential...but my other SLR takes beautiful pictures (it's a Nikon FG-20) and I got it in 1985.
Thanks for the info to everyone that has posted about the T90.

Jan: you can find a manual at www.canonfd.com. A T90 could still be serviced if your Canon repair center still accepts them, mine did a couple of years ago. Finding spare parts maybe difficult - you could have to cannibalize a non-working one.3. From : Jan (jan@chopperheadroad.com)

I am considering buying a friends T90 and am learning a little bit of it before I decide. Not being able to get it serviced is a big deciding factor though. At any rate, right now, I've put a fresh roll of film in, it loaded correctly as far as I know, and now it appears to be in manual mode and the camera will not take a picture. How do I get it out of manual mode and what would cause the camera to NOT take a picture (nothing happens when I push the shutter).
Thanks in advance

Thanks for the replies. While I would agree the camera is 20 years old it was not out that long, the fact remains that Canon knew their was a problem with this camera. "design flaw" My equipment is in mint condition and well taken care of. I did have it CLA twice since buying it new. I cannot justify Canon in this simply because it was their error not us consumers, and then not to correct the problem by offering an improved shutter or whatever to end the problem once and for all is in my book inexcusable. But then we still see this going on today with other brands as well. I have sold the camera for parts and most of my FD lenses to other interested parties. I have decided to move to Nikon, I will never consider a Canon again. I'd sure hate to spend $2000.00 to $8000.00 on a Digital Canon if this is what I got with my $2500 T90 system! Which is equivalent to how much by todays inflation rates?

John, I understand your disappointment, but the T90 is twenty years old now, and Canon can't support every model indefinitely.
It is also true we now live in a world where we are pushed to buy always something new and throw away items still working perfectly - we can stop it just refusing to play this game.
Some Canon repair centres still work on T90s, although spare parts are very difficult to find now. If you search in past messages, you will find some technicians who are able to repair these cameras too.6. From : Mickey Oberman (mickeyobe@rogers.com)

John,
Try (john.lowe40@ntlworld.com)
You might also try browsing this site for other T90 repair services.
All T90 owners were upset by Canon's discontinuance of the camera in about 1986.
But they carried parts for a long time. However, 21 years is demanding too much of any company.
Other camera manufacturers have cancelled lines in the past so Canon is not alone.

I too have a T90 and as many stated is a wonderful camera. I have had mine for years and paid quite a large sum for it new. Now I find that Canon no longer supports this camera. Makes one wonder if one should even consider buying a new digital canon SLR if this is the way they seem to forsake those of us who spent so much on a T90 system only to find now they (Canon) will not repair them or supply parts. I must say I am a bit perturbed by this. Do we just throw our large investment in the trash or is their anyplace left that can help us with parts and repairs? Thanks for the help.8. Hi there, I found a green version of Canon T90. Is this a special version? Is it sought after? Does it worth more? How much would you value it? Click on the link above/below for the photo of it... Thanks...

Hello,
I just stumbled onto this site and I couldn't help but notice the reference toward Canon FD equipment. I still have some FD gear that I would be interested in selling. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks Dennis
