The Canon T-90 System |

Modern
Classic SLRs Series : |
The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

That's all? I mean no other problems that effect functionality - e.g. does the camera not start to reload film as if it was a new roll - if frame count is reset to zero?...
Well, I actually don't need to 'diagnose' if mine is discharged, it isn't. Just wondering what things could be effected if no backup.

Hi: I recently acquired a Metz 40-MZ2, together with an SCA-3101. My question is, does this combo works with T-90? I also have the SCA-312AF, used to pair with a 32CT7. Can I use either of the module to get TTL/ATTL function on the T-90? Thanks.5. From : Robert Glenn Middleton (the_redd_groyne@hotmail.co.uk)

Mike, As you will probably know, flashing f32 or f27 on the T90 usually means that the TTL function is out of operating range. The f32 warning showing that one needs a neutral density filter or move further away from subject. This is probably of no use to you, in solving your particular problem. I only mention it because I have seen people flummoxed, when using a more powerful flash unit than they are used to, with the T90.6. From : mike (anythingon2wheels@yahoo.com)

Luigi: Thanks for the reply. What I get in the viewfinder is a flashing f32 when flash is set to TTL Mode. When the flash fires, it's full power. The unit is set on TTL,& I'm using the SCA-311 & corresponding cable for the flash. When setup as a standard flash it operates correctly ie: i pick a aperture on the flash unit & I get that info on the viewfinder of the T90.If I move the aperture setting on the flash it does so also in the viewfinder so I know the flash communicates with the camera.I'm starting to think that dispite what metz states, this flash cannot be used in TTL mode with my camera. I also have a CT60-2 with a SCA-510 which gives the same functionality when used with my T90. The only reason I considered the ct60-4 was the TTL function & the fact that the ct60-2 has a trigger voltage of 28 volts as opposed to about 5 volts for the ct60-4. After all my investigation & money spend I'm right back where I started. I'll keep the unit as it does have the fill flash but I'm a little bummed just the same. I have the flash book & 2 sets of the off camera flash units(which remin ds me I need to sell one of those)Thanks for the reply, I really do appreciate it.Mike
Ps: this same kind of thing happened to someone owning a Canon EOS-1.When he bought a 1D's he also got the same result I did. The ct60-4 would only work in the manual/standard mode with that camera.7. From : Luigi D. Sandon (cp@sandon.it)

Mike, you did not help us much to diagnose the problem. Did you get images not exposed correctly? Did you expect different readings in the viewfinder? What SCA adapter and cable are you using? How do you know it's not TTL metering?
AFAIK the CT-4 will work in a different way than a 300TL, for example.
IIRC it should work in "simple TTL" mode only - you set the aperture on the lens and the camera will meter and turn off the flash when done. Even the 300TL when off-camera works this way. A-TTL or FEL are not available. If you haven't one, here you can find the CT-4 manual: http://www.metz.de/en/photo_electronics/manuals.164.html.8. From : Mike (anythingon2wheels@yahoo.com)

I a little confused with regard to my T90 & Metz 60 CT-4. I have all the neccesary adapters & cables enabling TTL-Flash but I can only achieve standard flash non-ttl operation. Does anyone have some insight on this dilema. Thanks, Mike9. From : Andy (html4725@hotmail.com)

Does anyone know what has become of Christian Rollinger's site www.canonfd.com? This was a most usefull repository of Canon FD info.

To answer the Oracle question by Antonio:
I certainly think film will last for more than 5 years! Granted, types will be limited, as can be seen now there's not even Kodak Gold 100 around. I have not a single digital camera (ok, I got a Motorola V3 with a vee-gee-aeeee 640x480 'camera' build in), not even a compact. I still enjoy shooting with film, and all the pricing from film to developing to printing remain the same, at least at my place. I have no intention to switch to digital, unless film/developing price hike 2 folds. I shoot less than 50 rolls a year, and I think I can justify the kind of expenditure on film + development (at least it's still more economical than the depreciation of digital bodies...)
