The Canon T-90 System

Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Canon T-90 - Message Board/Guestbook

The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

This site is specifically created for this great SLR cameras by Canon. Please don't mail me other than constructive suggestions or rectifying mistakes found in this site, thanking you in advance. Mark, I called Canon about the eyecup for the T-90 that I bought used and it has never had a eyecup since I got it. They told me the EF eyecup for the Eos would fit it. I bought one on e-bay and it works fine and does not interfer with the lever to close the view finder. Gene

I'm looking for a replacement eye cup for my T-90. I've seen eBay listings for T-50 thru T-80 eye cups, and one seller responded (to a question) that they won't fit the T-90. Anyone know why? Is there a difference in the mounting square (rail)?

Kelvin - The Western US may be further than you want to send your T90, but Steve at the Camera Clinic in Reno, Nevada is one of the best T90 men around. All of us out here swear by him. Can't find his email or web address right now, but a web search should turn him up, or maybe someone else here can supply the info. Good luck. Ken

I have a T90 with a cracked viewfinder glass. Can this be replaced? Can I find the part somewhere and do it myself? Is there a repairer I can mail my camera to for fixing (I am in New Zealand but am prepared to post it internationally for service)?

David, It seems nobody can provide you with an answer to your problem so perhaps my suggestion might be of some value. Glue. Cement. Adhesive. Whatever you want to call it. Ther are some adhesives that actually slightly melt the plastic parts and marry them as if they were one piece again. I am thinking of the adhesive for PVC pipes or for clear acrilycs. There are so many wonder adhesives available today that there might even be one for the T90. I don't know what kind of plasic the T90 is made of but other users of this site or, indeed, Canon might be able to tell you. Good luck, Mickey

> Do you know whether this will interfere with the macro rail?

The A-1 body needs to be at the rear end of the rail to switch from the horizontal to vertical position when the Motor MA or a Winder is installed. This mean one loses any magnification setting and composition. The T90 can rotate anywhere.

DOF = Depth Of Field.

Ken, Thanks for your input. If you read the rest of the thread, I think you may appreciate my problem better. In essence, either I am doing something wrong or there is a fault on my camera that only becomes evident when I use the stop down lever. That is why I am contemplating using my A-1 for macrophotography. What you say about using the motordrive MA is useful because it saves me going down that path. I also have a Power Winder A. Do you know whether this will interfere with the macro rail? Finally, whilst I understand the overall meaning, what exactly does DOF stand for?

Syd - Sorry if this is redundant, I haven't reviewed the whole thread, but what you described is the normal stop-down procedure for the T-90 AND the A-1. Manually setting the aperture, DOF preview, then resetting to A, (which results in the T-90 resetting to Auto) should not normally result in an error display. In my experience, any deviation from that routine will. Footnote: another T90 advantage for macro is the built-in drive. Thumbing the advance on the A-1 can disturb carefully framed composition, and the MA motor drive interferes with my macro rail.

Luigi, I hear what you say about the advantages of the T90 over the A-1 and I cannot but agree with you. The T90 wouldn't be my main camera otherwise. However, as I have explained before, it seems as though every time I operate the stop-down lever I develop the EEEE problem, and have to reset the camera using the battery check button when ever I wish to take a photograph. It is for this reason only that I am going to use the A-1 for macro-photography. Possibly when I have gained a little more experience of using the bellows unit, I may try the T90 again. I did after all go to the bother of buying a Cable Release Adapter T3 for just this purpose.
