The Canon T-90 System |
|
Modern
Classic SLRs Series : |
The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

Help! I have just taken my T90 out of storage after a few years of it having no use. When I press the shutter button neither the shutter release nor film advance motors go round. The triangle symbol next to the 'S' (single shot) in the display blinks. Any advice as to what might be wrong? The camera was working fine when I packed it away. I am using a fresh set of AA batteries and the internal battery seems OK. Hoping someone can help. Regards. Mark.

8bit Barry: you should meter the highlights and shadow separately and check their difference. If it is beyond the film exposure latitude and contrast range, it is not possibile to have details both in highlights and shadows. In this situations averaging usually yelds to bad results. One should choose what is more important, highlights or shadows, and expose for that. In multispot auto mode you can add more than one highlight metering to weight them more, or use highlight/shadow control to shift the exposure in the desired range.4. Guys Can anyone tell me the most effective way of metering a landscape with the T90 and spot metering? I went and bought an EOS5 and a 20-35mm lens to make my camera bag lighter when out on dawn shoots, but the results were average due to my metering technique. The EOS5 doesnt have multi spot metering, only spot metering, so it has brought me back again to my good old T90. The lack of detail in the shadows was awful, and I have only just found out about reciprocity failure the hard way. Should I meter the shadows, midrange and highlights with the spot meter to get an average? If I am going to use an 0.6NDgrad should I do all the metering without the filter and then apply it once the light readings have been taken? I need some help!5. From : jason (alf8992@hotmail.com)

George - In FEL mode you don't have to do any compensations regardless what's mounted on the flash. The scale in the viewfinder will inform you wether the Flash is powerfull enough for the chosen distance and film. But you have to be carefull in 300TL program mode, as the flash doesn't know there has a factor 2,5 to becalculated in, when the infared signal chooses the aperture. BTW. I searched one, but couldn't figure out what kind o StoFen Omnibounce fits the 300TL?8. From : Luigi D. Sandon (cp@sandon.it)

George: FEL uses the pre-flash method to get the exposure to store, when using a bouncer the light emission might be too low for the camera meter in some situations - but it is not easy to tell when. Modes using the IR beam use it just estimate the subject distance, the exposure is calculated during the exposure itself, but of course it cannot be done with FEL, I guess you should experiment a little.9. Luigi - that's a shame because I use FEL more than any other type of flash exposure...10. From : Luigi D. George: it depends on what flash mode you are using. For example with the 300TL in A-TTL exposure is determined during actual exposure on the film plane, with FEL prior to it.
