The Canon T-90 System

Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Canon T-90 - Message Board/Guestbook

The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

Neils, the camera/flash is running right I am pretty sure. This comes up very often in the forums. In Tv and Av you are getting fill flash from the 300TL most of the time. That should explain the mystery. But if not,do chase down read Canon's supplementary manual on the 300TL in English on Christian Rollinger's website elsewhere. It tells all you need to know, but you are not the first to be puzzled by viewfinder readout out in non program mode. Think fill flash and it begins to make more sense, eventually, honest, would I kid you?. Be well,Irwin Schmendric, purveyor of high cholesterol but worth it kosher delicacies and dog treats.

I recently purchased a T90 with 300 TL flast. The T90 is indeed a great machine and seems to work fine. The flash works when in P, A-TTL or FEL modes, but only when the camera is in Program mode (shutter speed is always 1/60). When the metering mode of the camera is either Aperture or Shutter preference the camera will invariably show a blinking aperture- or shutter speed indicator as if there is no flash on the camera. Is this a problem of the sensor in the camera or am I doing something wrong? Is there anything I can try to to solve this problem? Thanks for your input. Niels

Help I'm getting the dreaded EEEE and Help messages. I know it means the shutter but there doesn't appear to be any spare shutters kicking about. I need either someone selling a T90 for spares or repair (with a working shutter) or someone who can repair the shutter rather than replace it. I'm based in the uk but willing to accept offers of help from far and wide. Chris

Is there a special lube to use on the T90? How does one go about doing a DIY CLA on this camera? Thanks!

Multiple 300TL flash work. I've recently acquired the connecting cords and TTL distributor to run three 300TLs. I understand that the hot shoe adapter takes certain functions out on the flash units; like FEL, A-TTL & 2nd curtain sync, but I'm getting what I think are strange settings in full program mode with the three flashes. Shooting at EV 2.5 with 200ASA negative film, the program mode is giving me settings like SS 10 seconds @ f/8. These seem more like readings I would get using the A-TTL mode of the 300TL. Camera is set to Program; Flashes are also in Program mode; the batteries are good; and the flashes are at full charge and the T-90 acknowledges flash ready when activating the T-90s meter. Do I have a problem or is shotting multiple flash indoor w/o floods not an option? If you think that I'm missing something (including the seemingly obvious), let me know, I won't take offense. Thanks, TomR.

Tom R - I've owned the 2 and I presently have the 3. The 3 is slightly taller, and if I recall correctly, the 2 has 5 electrical pins, and the 3 has the same 5 electrical pins plus a 6th mechanical pin which extends down from the 3 into the camera's hot shoe, when the 3's thumbwheel is screwed down. This prevents the 3 from coming loose during use. If I were buying one second hand, I see very little advantage of the 3 over the 2.
