The Canon T-90 System

Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Canon T-90 - Message Board/Guestbook

The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

The respective Message Boards are some of the HARDEST hit section of the PIM site, if at any one time, the traffic is high - the table/content may take a while to load the data, just be patience. No way you'll be able to apply contact cleaner without dissasemble the wheel. Squirting cleaner on the wheel just makes it sticky. The contacts are well protected and are not reachable from outside. Maybe a tiny drop will find it's way if you're really lucky.

BTW, if anyone are going to try to dissasemble the wheel, remove the battery case first, then solder off wires to the wheel, remove rubber grip, and then remove the wheel assembly.

Irwin Schmendrick et al, Never wily nilly nor, indeed, helter skelter nor to and fro nor back and forth.
A BRIEF squirt on each side of the wheel using Radio Shack's technicaly sophisticated little red tube will put the goop where it belongs.
Besides, where, other than on the accessory shoe is there paint on the T90? OK. Stay away from the logo and gold lettering. A relatively inexpensive sheet of facial tissue will confine the spray to its own neighbourhood and sop up the superflous soup.

Careful.Radio shack contact cleaner is great for RCA stereo plugs and volume control. But,not so fast boobele with the camera. Be careful squirting it willy nilly. I lost paint on the bottom of my old enamel Canon once with this contact cleaner,a solvent you know,it dissolves things. Better if you learn to take off the top and clean the contacts directly Irwin is thinking. Yours truly, just back from Miami Beach.Yours. Irwin Schmendrick CEO House of Irwin. Andrea: try Camera Service in Milano (www.cameraservicemilano.it). They recently repaired my FD 300/4, and were able to find the required spare parts. If they are not, try to contact John Lowe (john.lowe40@ntlworld.com). He is specialized in T-90 repairs and is based in England, therefore not too far from Italy.

Doug:
Keeping the camera covered won't prevent the kind of "dirty" the previous posters referred to. It's basically oxidation of the metal contact strips that fouls the wheel up. Use (i.e., frequent turning) of the wheel, keeps the oxidation rubbed off the contacts.

Re: the wheel, thanks, folks. I will try this tonight. I am no longer an every day shooter and the camera has been sitting out. Here in Cairo everything gets covered in layers of dust in a very short time. I will try cleaning it out and then keeping it covered. Doug

Doug Baker,
I have had that same problem. A couple of brief squirts of Radio Shack's Contact & Head Cleaner and repeatedly turning the wheel back and forth seems to have cured it.
I think T90 owners should be aware that this camera has an aversion to idleness. I keep mine on my desk. It looks rather handsome there. Every day I turn the wheel and when there is no film in the camera I also turn it on and fire it a number of times at various settings.

I had the same problem with my t90, Even if I don't use it, each month, I move the wheel a few times in tv and av modes, also with no film in it, I fire the shutter a few times.

Gerni -

Thanks to Luigi for clarifying the diopter question. As to the EC-II eyecup, yes that's the one, sorry, my mistake calling the "ED-II." I have used the EC-II, and it fits, although it's a slightly oversize, and blocks access to the viewfinder shutter. That wasn't a problem for me, but you should know about it.

Ken
