The Canon T-90 System

Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Canon T-90 - Message Board/Guestbook

The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

Roger, Sorry, I don't know of any European service shops, although I suspect they exist. If you can't find one, contact one of these U.S. facilities. http://www.canont90.com/pages/1/index.htm or http://www.horizon-electronics.com/ AFAIK, both have good reputations. -Greg

George, To clean the battery contacts, use a pencil eraser and, if necessary, some very fine grit sandpaper. Use a blower to clean all the debris out when done. As for changing the batteries, I've always found that the battery check function to be reliable. Just carry extra batteries for the camera and, if necessary, for your flash. WRT the Command Back vs. the Data Back. I use Command Backs on both of my T-90s and think they're great. IMHO I think the best feature of the Command Back is the self timer/interval timer functions. The interval timer is especially useful to avoid the dreaded stuck shutter magnet problem when the T-90 is not in use. Just set it to fire the shutter every twenty-four hours.

For exposure information I use a $20.00, micro cassette recorder. It works for me. Home Printing. If you're going to print every frame you shoot, it gets very expensive. I use a flatbed scanner with a film adapter. Works well for indexing, archiving and frame selection. When you identify the killer frame, do a high resolution scan, adjust the color saturation and contrast as desired and print it. You can then just have that frame printed at your local shop showing them exactly what you want in color and contrast, as well as cropping. Saves a lot of $$$ by not paying for prints you'd never show to anyone. TomR.

Whilst I am in the questions mood... (I still want to hear from you slide photographers out there by the way!) - I have been running my T90 on the same set of batteries since about a year ago and the battery meter still shows good.. do I need to change them sooner or shall I wait until I get a lower level reading? On the same subject my 300TL has a a very small bit of possible corrosion (caused by a leaky battery)on one of the spring contacts - how do I clean this?? On another matter - I have been offered a Data Back in very good condition (LCD intact) for around £100 - my initial thought are that this seems expensive in comparison to what I gather is the more desirable Command Back which offers time lapse photography amongst other goodies - should I purchase it??

George: "home printing" is not cheap, especially for "enlargements". Although many inkjet printers offer separate ink cartridges, paper and ink are somewhat expensive.

Among scanners, those built for film only offer better quality, but cost more. Flatbed scanners with film scanning capability improved a lot, are more flexible and are somewhat cheaper, anyway look for models able to "focus" on the slide.

I feel sadly that I am part of a dwindling minority regards film vs digital users but am committed to my cherished T90 and slide photography and am hoping there may be quite a few slide photographers here(?)My only concern at the moment is regards finding a suitable high quality scanning/printing solution for my slides - I am interested in other slide-photographers' experiences and also if anyone here could recommend suitable equipment. FYI I was having a lengthy conversation with a friend of mine (pro interiors photographer) who is a medium format user unsurprisingly but even he is preparing himself for the iminent switch to digital that the industry is adopting... he did a good job of convincing me that there are NO digital printers that can give lab-quality finish - and also highlighted the fact that even with a good scanner I would never get prints that look as good/accurate as my transparencies. I do not wish to dump my T90 as I have thrown quite a bit of money at the camera and lenses and I do not wish to entertain the expense of Cibachromes for every print I want done (just the "special" ones). From what I have researched on the web - home printing seems to fall into 3 categories - ink jet, dye ink jet and dye sublimation... I gather that the sublimation option may be the better?

Need some help. I was doing some routine maintenence on my computer and have somehow lost all my bookmarks. I you good people could provide me with the urls to Mr. Rollinger's web site as well as the Canon Camera museum and the E-bay pricing page for FD equipment, I'd be a great help. Any other links you think are worthwhile would also be appreciated. Thanks, TomR.
