The Canon T-90 System

Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Canon T-90 - Message Board/Guestbook

The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

Christopher,
If you will take the time to browse through this site you will find letters reciting virtualy all the problems encountered with the T90 and they are relatively few. The same ones do seem to keep recurring but until one happens I should not worry.
I have never heard of a squeaking shutter. Perhaps sending it to a reliable T90 service person (also to be found among these letters) for a thorough cleaning and check up might be appropriate at this time.

I just bought a Canon T90. It has been unused for some time. Are there any shutter squeek problems like with the A-Series? Also, what tend to be the trouble spots with this camera over time? Does the LCD hold up? I would appreciate any comments about this great camera. Thanks, -Christopher

Manolis:
Perhaps you should be looking at the right side of the viewfinder instead of the left? Or do you have the British version? Another possibility is that you may have changed the setting inside the door on the right end of the camera body (de klepdeurtje). If I remember rightly there are three possible settings, but I don't remember what they all are.
Geluk!
Bart

After 14 years I have the impression that the multi-spot measuring indicators (vertical bar on the left side in the viewer) are getting faint. Is this expected? What's the cure?
thanks, Manolis

Hi guys.
Been reading this wonderfull message board becuase I've just bought a T90 with a stuck shutter and I'm amazed at how many people have had the same problem. I've found John Lowes address and am currently waiting for him to get back to me regarding the fix.(My mum told me to never hit cameras with a rubber mallet so I'll do it the proper way!!!).
Just one other point seems to raise it's head more often than the sticking shutter and that's the availability of eyecups. Having owned all the A series cameras (currently having 2 A-1s) I thought I'd try fitting the A series eyecup, and guess what - it fits perfectly and does not interfere with the viewfinder blind lever, so what is the problem?
Canon sold 5 million AE-1s, and who knows how many AE-1Ps, AT-1s, AV-1s (and two AL-1s that I know of) so I reckon that people must be throwing out the eyecups with the garbage. My local camera shop has new pattern ones but I've seen genuine Canon 4S eyecups on ebay for a few quid (rumour has it that McDonalds are giving them away in their Happy meals, they're that common!). When I sold my cameras I used to let the eyecups go with them but, seeing as there is obviously going to be a worldwide shortage caused by mad T90 owners fighting to exclude that little bit of stray light, I think in future I'll hang onto them.
Can't wait to use the T90, I've been through all the functions, read the manual, the Hove book and the Canon T90 Performance book (are these rare?) and done everything bar expose the film.
Keep up the good work on the site and best regards,

Tony Maile (Nottingham, England).

Hello Tom R, -- The EOS ML 3 ring light will work fine with the T 90, but you will need to get a ring adapter that is available to attach it to an FD Macro lens such as a 50/3.5 FD . Ray R.

Does anybody know whether the EOS macro ring lights are compatable with our T-90s? I'm considering the Vivitar or Phpenix units if I can't find a ML-2 or an EOS ring light at a reasonable price.

Thanks,

TomR.
