The Canon T-90 System

Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Canon T-90 - Message Board/Guestbook

The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

The Vivitar 285 HV should not cause any harm to the T90. It is a low enough voltage trigger like most modern flashes. And if you want to cover the excess four contacts that is up to you. Canon only cautions about flashes with different polarity than the 300TL and I can't imagine that being the case with the Vivitar. Not to worry. The 300TL is built like the Space Shuttle and is one nice flashgun for the T90. E.B.Black, still riding up in First Class with her grace and the Tank

I just purchased a T90. Can my current Vivitar 285HV be used with this camera (via a pc-hotshoe connection)? I am presently seeking the 300TL but would like to use the Vivitar as a backup.

Thanks

Eric, I will take a shot at your question. I think that you need to realize that the flash will fire as soon as it recycles. OK. I recycles really fast when the power is cut down manually. The power is cut down when the flash is in Manual Mode to get it to fire to keep pace with a winderr at such speeds. And in manual, you do the computation I am afraid. Thjere is a strobe mode on some Speedlites, but I dont think that will work for your situation. The other factor that seems to enter into the computation and I get out of my limited depth here is the speed of your film. Faster film with manual flash needs less power for same exposure thus faster recycle.Say, On the other hand, maybe you want a video camcorder thing with halogen powered lights. Its a thought. Or a continuous light source that has a power pack. That is the neat way to go, consistent, viewable, powerful and actually practical in a way .. Also considert a big Canon or Metz unit, if you are going to go Canon. At least they usually stick to rated power output closer than some companies, What is worse than exposures all over the place for a sequence of motion. Other experiencers may come your way with thoughts, but I fear this is a non common type of application for the T90 and its accessories. Good luck with your strobe shooting. EBB

Hi, I want to upgrade my current setup to a T90, but have question. It's motor drive runs at 4.5fps. I want to get a handle mount flash like a sunpak 522 or 544. That runs at 4fps. Problem. I want to be able to shoot at the full 4.5fps and still have flash for every frame. Or is there a way to have the T90 go at 4fps? (without actualy pushing the shutter 4 times every second) That would be just as good too. I just don't want any frames in a sequence to lose a flash because I need it consistent. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks.

Robin, look what I found: Canon Speedlite Reference Guide 1991 from the wizards of Canon USA, and I quote: " In response to may inquiries from owners of pre-1979 breech-lock FD and Fl Macro lenses, Canon no longer manufactures or stocks the Macrolite Adapter 55/Tightening Ring 55. Adapting the ML-3 to these 55 filter size lenses is simply a matter of using a 55-52 step down ring with Macrolite Adapter 52C (or alternately a 55-58 step up ring with Macrolite Adapter 58C. However, for ML-2 owners, many generic step up and down adapters do not have enough thread depth to accept the ML-2 adapter 52 with its Tightening Ring. The only remedy for this problem is to extend the depth of the filter threads by attaching a standard UV or haze filter to the step up or step down ring." OK, that's up to you to figure out, Robin. Oh yes, this nice booklet from 1991 I plan oneday soon to copy the 75 pages and send off to Mr Rollinger who keeps that nice FD website with all the hard tofind old booklets on the "boodoir secrets" of what Canon stuff " mates" with what other stuff.Sexy reading! Be well. Eat prunes daily, tovarich. Uncle Irwin

I have the Canon Ringlite ML2 and a breechlock 55mm Macro. Was there an adaptor ring made for this combination? If so what is the part no.? I have the ring for the FDn Macro which is too small.
I've lost a screw (one of three which attach the mount to the lens)from my 300mm FDn f4L.Does anyone know where in the UK I can get a replacement?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Regards.
Robin.

For Hove Book try amazon. com the UK store on line. Takes a couple weeks, but price is right and book is new. For flashes, you have many choices since all new Speedlites have been reported to work with T90. I recommend the 540EZ for raw power and deluxe quality. Stay well, get your flu shot early, Uncle Irwin, Purveyor of Organic Kosher Delicacies and Dog Treats. Camera Maven too.

Need some help from a Command Back 90 owner. I went looking for a battery for the Back, CR2025, and a local store (not a camera shop) told me that a CR2032 was a comparable battery. Is it?

Thanks,

TomR
