The Canon T-90 System

Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Canon T-90 - Message Board/Guestbook

The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

Your welcome, Doug. The OPTECH wrist strap has a velcro fastener, and gives a grip like for when you are hanging from rock cliffs and slaloming down Everest with T90..Moses,Moses, Glad you brought up Moishe'. Did you all hear that Mel Gibson is making a movie called "Moses." Proceeds to the Holocaust museum I read. Its a great rumour anyway:-)So good holiday and be fit. A glass of slivovitz daily helps. Also a big almond macaroon in your easter basket. Zei gesuhnt.

Thanks for the comments on the strap problem. I really should have done a quick search here before posting. When I did so I found that several people had posted on this earlier just this year and who knows how many before then. Frankly, since this is no longer my job and I no longer shoot every day I guess I will just not fix it and will go with my own version of the one-sided solution that Irwin mentions. I will also try to figure out what to do about the rubber case later. Beer can insulators are not too common here in Egypt.
Happy Pesach to you all as well. We had a mini-seder up on Mt Sinai where the 40 wise guys were supposed to have stayed waiting for Moses to come back with the word. Peace to all. Doug

Doug babe, sorry to hear about the woops spill and cracked lug,-Vinyl is Final, polycarbonate, another story... I recall, where did I read that Horizon Electronics near San Fran can replace the plastic lug with a metal lug,I read it in this forum I think. Might cost a heavy disassembloy price but hey,you still enjoy the T90 my kind of fellow. And guess what, there are no really great eveready cases, but the neoprene SLR wrap arounds made by "Zing" might work for you if you can figure the size w lens too. Not custom, but protection from light drizzle and bumps in the subway that sorta stuff. I use a one side only strap that wraps around the wrist to hook to one lug,the strong one!. Optech makes them. Good luck and good health and prosperity. Irwin w/ Doctor Strangelieb,LTD. partners in the Kosher Delicacies and Dog Treats COOP. Happy Pesach and Blessings to the Easter Bunnies.

Doug, To bad about your strap loop both of mine are made from brass as far as I can tell. One maybe not it doesn't have any brassing on it yet so it could be a Polycarobate.

An idea for you Bump cover. Look into sheet neoprene like an Op tech camera strap is made from. It can be bought from fabric suppliers and can be stitched to make the shape you want. It is interesting that Canon newer made any sort of a ER case for the T90. I guess after the embarassment of their A series cases that looked like crap after a few years they decided not to risk it.

Doug,

The right-hand strap loop is an integral part of the switch panel under the palm wing, a single molded piece. The way it is designed, there's not really anything substantial to which you could mount a metal loop.

The story goes that there was a new part substituted during production that was supposed to be more durable, but this is a fairly frequent complaint. Someone once mentioned using a crlss-strap bet ween the ends of the neckstrap, so that if the loop fails, it's still possible to catch the camera.

Hi folks, a couple of things today. 1st, the little plastic loop that holds the strap has broken. It broke a few weeks ago and my wife, a polymer chemist, suggested that we try super glue. This held for a while but ultimately it broke again. Fortunately, it did so while I was picking it up in a safe place. We were hiking on Mt Sinai and it could have been a real problem if it had actually fallen. Why did they make this end out of plastic when the other is metal, especially when it has to be bent and subjected to odd stresses? Has anyone had this? I am going to America soon and may try to find someone to make a metal replacement but I can't get the screw loose to get the old piece out. Pix of this and of what I did to put the strap together are at bakersabroad.org/t90loopfix.jpg and bakersabroad.org/t90brokenloop.jpg Any ideas? 2nd, why doesn't someone make a nice rubber sleeve for the camera for rough places? You would have to take it off to change film but still, this would be appreciated when hiking over rocks. I was thinking of using one of those beer can insulators and reforming it. Ideas? Thanks. Doug

Tony, There are collectors who create data bases from which to determine details about the cameras they collect. I would guess this is one of those cases. It is also possible that the buyer/bidder whats to get the newest possible camera. (not really a big deal with T90's as they were only made for a couple of years. I would suggest that you send the serial number with the last two digits XXed out (that would protect you from someone filing a false thieft report) and then the Build or Date cose which is found in the film compartment up under the LCD or above the take up spool. It will be a four-five digit number in black ink. I'm in the Canon FD group on Yahoo we have at least four or five number collectors. Mark W.
