The Canon T-90 System

Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Canon T-90 - Message Board/Guestbook

The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

I have a problem with the data memory back 90 on my T90. When taking a photograph it no longer imprints the film and the display in "Date", "Data" or "Date/Data" flashes constantly. The only way to stop it flashing is to depress four buttons which of course loses the data. The data and date are being stored in memory, I'm just not getting the imprinting (symbols show correctly in both the viewfinder and on the DMB LCD at exposure), and then the flashing display starts. I've cleaned the body /DMB connections, checked and replaced batteries to no avail. Has anybody encountered this problem and solved it?

Dave - here are quotes from the Reference Manual: There is one major difference between A-TTL and FEL. In an A-TTL setting, flash output is is controlled off the film plane during the actual exposure. With FEL, flash output is determined prior to exposure in order to allow the photographer complete control ... After placing the the spot meter area of the T90 over the main subject, FEL is initiated by pressing the T90's spot metering button. This sets the available light meter reading as well as the flash exposure level... The second operation in FEL is also a pre-flash emitted by the 300TL. However, unlike A-TTL, the infrared emitter is not used. Instead, the main flash head fires a 1/20 power, burst of light in the direct as well as the bounce settings. Light reflected from the main subject is registered by the 2.7% spot meter of the T90 and locked into memory.

Many thanks for your quick reply Don. The only thing that worries me a bit is the fact that on FEL mode the 300TL doesn't give a pre-flash for the TTL off film metering. Any help would be gratefully received. Thanks again for your time

Dave thrower - You need to read or buy "Canon's Reference Guide for the 300TL Speedlite". See this eBay auction http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1945179696. It is also posted on some Canon FD website. In P mode, the 300TL is the primary light, and the T90 ignores ambient light. In Av, Tv, or FEL mode, the strobe light is only a gentle flash - fill light; the T90 treats ambient light as the main light in these modes. Shutter speed can be quite long, and you may need to use a tripod in these modes. Your T90 and 300TL are working perfectly well.

ZaX - Any of the newer Canon EOS modular cord components (Hot Shoe 2, Hot Shoe 3, off camera shoe adapter, connecting cord 60 or 300), or the Off Camera Shoe Cord 2, will work fine on the T90.

Ken - The Canon T90 takes the Canon FD mount. A huge number of other Canon bodies will also use this mount: A Canon (AE-1 etc), T Canon (T60,T70, T80, T90) or F Canon (F1). The only newer FD mount Canon after the T90, was the Canon T-60. After that, Canon changed to the EF electronic mount for the newer EOS cameras.

Hi all

I have a T90 and 300TL flash, but the flash only works on program, if I select TTL of FEL the meter readings in the viewfinder are well out - as if the flash is not being considered in the exposure although the green flash symbol appears in the viewfinder - any ideas as to the fault please?

A question about off shoe flash photography with canon T90 and 300TL canon flashgun. DOes anyone know if the existing connecting cord, TTL hot shoe adapter and off-camera shoe adapter for EOS cameras are compatible for use, or do I need the originals for canon T90???
Thanx in advance!

Help help!!!

My beloved Canon T90 has been lost! I am having trouble finding a replacement as I live In Thailand. Does Canon have a later model that uses the same lenses and filters? I still have these and don't want to buy new accessories.

Desperate in Bangkok,

Ken
