The Canon T-90 System

Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Canon T-90 - Message Board/Guestbook

The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

This site is specifically created for this great SLR cameras by Canon. Please don't mail me other than constructive suggestions or rectifying mistakes found in this site, thanking you in advance. Since this is a non-profitable resource site - The developer of this site reserves the rights to censor or delete any inappropriate, unrelated, misleading or excessively hostile messages posted herein. If your intention is to dispose your Canon cameras or its accompanying accessories or looking for a used model or any of its system components, please use a separate section with a higher volume of traffic Free Trade Zone site instead. The Photography In Malaysia has no Guestbook on its own, because it is an integral part of the MIR site. The respective Message Boards are some of the HARDEST hit section of the PIM site, if at any one time, the traffic is high - the table/content may take a while to load the data, just be patience. If it stalls, just click on the 'Reload' or 'Refresh' button on your browser menu once to re-attempt. Thank you.

I erred - the "universal" 2 May 2001 dating of msgs seems only attached to the "new" 8 pages (perhaps this is still retrievable)- the archived pages at the bottom of the page do however retain their original dates. But I still haven't worked out the order - apart from reverse chronological order - but where do you start?

Yes Jeremie we do have a new board here - but without appearing churlish about the reorganisation and the time and affort of those involved I am not clear what new "functions" this has. Presumably because all the msgs were converted over on 2 May 2001 you will see that the original msg dates appear to have all been lost - so you can't really tell where you are. The search function seems to create only one page of 10 hits - I think it might be better to go "Control F" on the normal 10 msg page - at least that way your search word is highlighted. I think a general msg about how its supposed to work might be useful. Looking at the usual msg above about etiquette I woudl classify this comment as "random musing" - not "excessively hostile" so please don't flame me! - I love this page and check it almost every time I am on line for useful snippets of info etc. I guess its very difficult to create a new way of dealing with it while maintaining the previous huge database. Michael

Look as if we will have a new Board here.... The older archived Messages are of very useful, it fills with lotta good technical information. Looked like we have to use the search button for older ones and the new search with recent input. Anyway, despite this - the new Board is so much better. Like many others in this site, this T90 site is a lovely website with great content . I, especially like the design on top of this feedback page. Cool. Consider get some extra income by inserting some flashing advertisement panels (I know others would kill me for this....) ? Perhaps not an appropriate proposal. Forget it..

Syd, sorry if that link failed. Looks like the web site with John Liu's review is kaput. You might try this place: http://www.greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a.tcl?topic=Canon%20FD. Seems like the moderator of this FD page was the old moderator or the extinct page. Does that make sense? Well, it's a pity the review may no longer be accessible. Although this PIM site is very complete, I think John had a nice user perspective on why he likes the T90 over the A-1 and EOS. It's a longish item, but someone may find a copy to scan and even pass on to PIM as a PDF file or something. (Irwin tosses acronyms like he knows what they mean..but I have to keep up with kids.) Yours truly, I.Schmedrick,Purveyor of Kosher Delicacies and Yummy Dog Treats. Irwin's family crest: "Never Pay Retail!" Cheers friends .

Don - Irwin is right (he always is). There is not really too much of a contest between the A1 and the T90 - I still have my A1 in the cupboard, and I bought a T90 as a sort of replacement in Tokyo in 1999 (the story is way back in these pages somewhere) and have loved it ever since (I'm sorry but the A1 just doesn't get out anymore). The technical differences are easy - T90 has TTL metering, the built in drive (if you like wasting film rapidly), the labrynthine and confusing modes of the 300TL flash (that alone could keep you guessing for months!), the light up dials at night, the spot and other metering choices etc etc - but you know the nicest thing (in my view) - its the damn sexy sound of that metal shutter as against the cloth shutter in the A1 - it just sounds so much more solid (and is) and you just know you have a REAL professional camera in your hands. As they say in the classics - at the right price, buy with absolute confidence. Like Irwin, I am also wondering about a routine grease and oil change for the T90 - I really want the "leader out" mod done (discussed once earlier) and a trip to Southern Africa last year may have got it a bit dusty - the quote I got yesterday for about $90 (Aust) at one place for a routine clean was better than an earlier one for $160 - sometimes I think they think, (once) expensive camera, we must charge you more - it's not that more complicated to do it surely?!

JOHN: the battery pack assembly for the T90 is item number is CG9-2683-000. You can call Canon USA's parts department at 732-521-7230 located in New Jersey (and be nice). Last month, I purchased one too (just in case - I always feel like I'm gonna break the battery lock cover). I got it within 1 week (from New Jersey, USA to New York, USA). It cost about $40US. Good Luck.

Hoboy Don, that one is easy. T90 wins by a knockout over the A-1, which was great in its heyday, except it's twice the price. And really well kept T90's go for even more than that. Hey, once you try the T90 you set aside the A1 and its motordrive just for backup. (Tell me I am wrong guys, as in metal beats polycarbonate), no dumb PC connector on the stock model..see one has to reach hard to knock it. Yours truly, Irwin Schmedrick. PS: I refer you Sy to John Liu's classic review of the T90 at http://ww.kjsl.com/canonfd/cameras/T90/html. Prices haven't changed much either for this camera. It's highly prized for FD lens users and will keep you busy learning all the features after you buy one. Mine, in nice shape was 450.00 and upgraded with another 75 bucks for battery holder and new viewscreen. Most T90's come with no finder eyecup, so add 20.00 for a EOS-1n cup, or just use one of your spare A-1 cups which also fits the T90. As Liu points out you would have to buy maybe a Canon EOS 5 or even the EOS 3 to get all the T90 features. So press on with your plans... no downsides to this machine.
