The Canon T-90 System

Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Canon T-90 - Message Board/Guestbook

The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

Having problems with my T90 w/Command Back 90..haven't used the camera in years although the batteries are fine in the camera itself(e.g. registering 3 bars. Took it out yesterday to show my 11 year old son and couldn't get it to work. Here's the details:

-Pressing shutter button does not take picture
-LDC display on top of camera fully lit and functional however arrow pointing to "single" is flashing
-No bottom LCD in display within viewfinder lit
-Display inside viewfinder on right sider shows four dots vertically and "F"
-Command back battery dead

Just to clarify, I am NOT experiencing the EEEE Help problem others seem to have related to the shutter.

If you have any advice for me on what's wrong and how to fix it, I'd be truly grateful. I'm trying to pass on this great camera to my next generation of photography enthusiasts (my son) and he's really excited.

Thanks!

Rick has just informed me relating some sad news on Ken Durling (1951-2007). I am equally felt lost for a friend that I have never meet before too. Ken has been with the T90, T & A series and the lenses board very actively for the last 8-10 years answering whatever questions and doubt on those Canon bodies/lenses. We have been exchanging many mails privately and I have very high regards on his wealth of knowledge on photography as well as hardware too.

It is certainly not a very nice feeling to know this and all the boards herein will surely miss his passion and caring inputs from here on...

Hello,

I am having another problem with my T90 camera :(
The main control dial has quit responding to my commands.
While I turn it is does not do anything - thus, I cannot change the aperture, the shooting modes, the metering options and so on ...
This happened for no obvious reason.
I had to photograph a parade a few days ago, in the evening before it i have played with the camera a bit (no film in it) everything seemed to be OK, than in the morning, I went to the parade, I have put a roll of film in it, and while photographing the first shots I came across this problem.
I do not know If the problem started the moments BEFORE inserting the film, or in the moment I did it, or a couple of shots after inserting the film, since the camera was on AV-mode, and I was shooting with wide-open aperture.
Also, I don't recall anything bad happening to the camera - it wasn't dropped, exposed to bad weather or anything. The temperature outside was about 4-5 degree Celsius, but there was no condensation. Also, after I have returned home, the problem did not dissapear. I have tried changing the batteries with fresh ones, and using the camera with no film in it. The problem is still there :(

Did anyone encounter this problem and found a solution to it?
Thanks in advance.

Chuck,

Any of the EOS ttl cords will work with the T90, as will the other EOS ttl items ie off camera adapter, 4 way connector etc.

David, One more thing. Try thoroughly cleaning the contacts on each battery and on the battery holder. Fine sandpaper or an emery board or an ink eraser should do the job. Mickey

David, You might try turning the switch off and on numerous times to see if that will get it working. Other than that, browse this site for a T90 repairman. Good luck.

Mickey

Hi everyone
I turned off the power switch with the intension of saving energy. Four days later, the camera will not come on, I even replaced the batteries but will not come on. Anything I'm doing wrong?
It was a gift and it's my first time of using this camera. I have only taken 13 snaps but the feel of it and the noise it makes when taking pictures is a dram.
I know it's an old camera but i have already fallen in love with this beast.
Many thanks.

William,

The internal battery in the T90 is reached by removing the top, separating the the two layers of flexi-circuit on the top righthand side of the prism, and unsoldering the battery which is on the lower flexi-circuit. Note - righthand side when camera held in normal operating position, back facing you.

This is a relatively simple job, if you have the correct tools and experience. That you are asking for help perhaps indicates that you have not worked on the T90 before.

I recommend that you contact the UK repairer- Paul Woods. See Antony's post of 1.48. Saturday 20 October 2007, for Paul Woods' email. I have personal experience of Paul's work - It is both fairly priced and very well carried out.
