The Canon T-90 System

Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Canon T-90 - Message Board/Guestbook

The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

The respective Message Boards are some of the HARDEST hit section of the PIM site, if at any one time, the traffic is high - the table/content may take a while to load the data, just be patience. If it stalls, just click on the 'Reload' or 'Refresh' button on your browser menu once to re-attempt. Thank you.

Dorothy, Ken is correct about www.photo.net being an excellent source for photography tutorials. I would also like to suggest this website, intended for absolute beginners in photography: http://www.silverlight.co.uk/tutorials/
As anyone will tell you, practice, practice, practice. You will learn from your mistakes. Check out books at your library on photography - you will see examples of outstanding photography to use as a goal in your own endeavors. Good Luck. Larry

I just bought a used t90 and it seems to have a problem. It cannot focus to infinity (at least according to the viewfinder). I have tried several lenses with the same result. It is not way off, but the split screen just won't quite come together or a distant object with the lens set to infinity. I think this is telling me that either the mirror is not in the right position, or the focusing screen is not fully seated? I suspect this is throwing off all my focusing. I have only run 1 roll of film through it before I noticed the problem. I will know better after I develop the second roll how bad the focus problem is as I am shooting a bunch of pictures with the aperture wide open.

Does anyone know if this is a common problem or what to do to fix it? Tom

Maurice - I rather doubt it. Best approach would probably just to seek and buy a diopter with the proper correction. What strength do you need? Ken

I have a diopter eyecup for the T90 with the wrong lens for my current vision problem. Does anyone know of a repair service that can change the lens?

Dorothy = What's the serial number on yours? It's the only way we can tell if it's a boy or a girl. Seriously, though, this is a pretty complex camera for a beginner. Do you have a manual? You CAN just set it on "Program" and fire away and most of the time the camera will give you excellent results. In the meantime study your manual. If you don't have one, you can download one from the internet. For tutorials, try www.photo.net. There is a wide range of levels of advancement there. Also try various Google searches, and your local Barnes & Noble or Border's photography section. Photography is a well-documented field of knowledge - info is everywhere for anyone who looks in even a cursory manner. Ken

Good morning I opened up the message board in the hope of learning about the T-90 which I have just bought. Alas, as a complete and utter novice where photography is concerned, I find myself swimming in a sea of incomprehension... Can anyone advise me whether there are Internet sites that I could visit to get general tuition/information on photography, cameras, etc.? AFter that I can try to graduate to the more exotic stuff that you chaps are all worried about. I am also a little surprised to find that in the few pages I did access, the messages all appeared to be from men. Is this a boy camera? (Worse, is it a girl camera?) In the meantime I shall continue to follow the message board and copy the information that I cannot comprehend, while looking forward to the day that I may be able to do so... Kind regards Dorothy

Alex, The best source for the information you seek is this very site. A T90 is well worth spending an hour or two browsing through it for relevant caveats. Mickey

Jaako - You can overide the 1/90 shutter speed in F.no.set-mode with a small switch which is hidden under the reflector (called "slow synchro") at the speedlite. Now you can choose a shutter speed between 30 sec. and 1/250 without any technical problems. Matthias

I recently purchased a SpeedLite 299T to use with my FD-bodies. When using it on T90 in F.no.set -mode it automatically sets the shutter speed at 1/90. However if I set it to slow sync shutter speeds down to 1/250 can be selected via the T90's input dial while the 299T is still in F.no.set. In the 299T manual it is said that with the T90 shutter speed is set at 1/90 except in the manual mode where it is set at 1/250. Has anyone noticed the same inconsistency? Can you use the 1/250 s x-sync speed this way or will it create a problem with the exposure or something? Or is the shutter speed really 1/90 even if the viewfinder display shows 1/125 or 1/250? (e-mail without the -at- and -dot-, just trying to reduce the spam a little)
