The Canon T-90 System

Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Canon T-90 - Message Board/Guestbook

The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

Thanks Ketil and Dr Strangelove!

Question for Dr Strangelove:Can you still find and original T90 Rubber Eye Cup in Germany? I've been looking everywhere but no luck.

Achtung, to all who use der studio flash. Studio flashes can have the trigger voltage higher than what the T90 can accept. This is truth, javohtl, und Canon has given fair warning in its official publications. So, and this is important mye friends to understand. Canon T90 is one of those 6 volts DC trigger flashes. When you are attaching a connection from the hotshoe to a PC tip and then to a studio strobe, you take a chance of megadeath voltage to the synch circuit of the T90. Canon did not put a PC connector in the T90 with some thought I am believing to avoid the phone calls about kaput circuits. They want really to eliminate certain possible eventual cirkuit damage. So, when you buy hot shoe to PC adapter from the auction, could be no voltage reduction hmm?. For that you need a voltage regulator in the connector, and for that, you must buy the adapter from Wein and companies called the safe synch or the cable makers hot shoe to PC adapter which has a little voltage regulator spliced in. Sound confusing. Good. Other better ways you know. Dr Strangelove uses a studio strobe but no synch cables. How do I do such wonderful thing? Simple, liebschen. Tilt the 300 TL to the ceiling and put on low power and kaboom, you trigger the studio flash mit optical slave. No optical slave on the studio flash, well that is easy to fix glad you ask. Buy a flash slave adapter plug to stick in the DIN (my country,ja) or two prong household outlet hole in the studio flash. Dr Strangelove has f time to learn these tricks in the mineshaft when the Playboy magazines not get here in time. Gut luck, all, and be careful with studio strobes. One unit I hear was at 200 volts at the synch connection. Nicht gemutlich. Dr Strangelieb, ,c/o Laststopfurgas, Montana

Does anyone have any input on how one could acquire the "Interface" for the Canon T-90 Data Memory Back to download the information stored in the Data Back into a computer?
This feature is mentioned with reference to the Data Back discussed in the accessory pages of the T-90 instruction manual, but it says the "Interface" accessory was not made available in North America. Has anyone had any experience with this? A picture of it is shown on this web site.

I got on Ebay a hot shoe to PC adapter for $15.00 and used a long PC cord to the studio flash and it works fine.

Joe, The flash sync contact (called PC) was used for triggering a flash not mounted in the hot shoe, such as a studio flash. You can easily get a hotshoe adapter for this instead of drilling a hole in the top cover and install a PC contact. Once it's modified, you can't choose between leader out or in, without taking it apart again, and remowe the short. So it's modified only if the leader is out. regards, Ketil

George Richardson - In Program mode, the strobe light is the dominant light. The background may be very dark. The shutter speed is held between 1/60 and 1/250 second for hand holding. In ATTL, the strobe light is only supplementary lighting, carefully balanced to the ambient light level. The shutter speed may be between 30 seconds and 1/250, so a tripod probably will be required. Also on ATTL you can select the aperture, so you can select one that gives much depth of field. In Program, the camera may select a large aperture with very limited depth of field.

Hi Ketil! What was the purpose for the flash sync contact modification that canon offered on the T90? I do not know if my camera has been modified as the first owner did not mention it. Thanks for your time again!

Joe, Canon offered two modifications for the T90. One was a flash sync contakt on the prism hump, and the other was to leave a bit of the film leader out after a rewind. Normally the film is drawn into the film cannister, but if the camara is modified, the leader sticks out. It makes it easier to change film in the midle of the roll. The drawback is that the film end stays over the shutter and can destroy it if you accidently release the shutter without removing the cannister. I never let the cannister stay in the camera after a rewind, so I don't find too much of a problem. Ketil

hi, I have a T90 of which the spotmeter button doesn't seem to work. I usually do the spotmetering by pressing the shutter release halfway, but for the FEL function of the 300TL speedlite and for multispotmetering, it's rather annoying. Does anyone has or ever had the same problem and would be willing to give me some recommendations on what to do?
cheers, Evert Doorn, the Netherlands

Thanks Ketil. Sounds more than a do it yourself job. Anyway I will try to replace the battery from your very informative and detail instruction. By the way, I am unsure what you meant when you said you can modify to leave the leader out on rewind.
Thanks again Ketil!
