The Canon T-90 System

Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Canon T-90 - Message Board/Guestbook

The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

This site is specifically created for this great SLR cameras by Canon. Please don't mail me other than constructive suggestions or rectifying mistakes found in this site, thanking you in advance. The respective Message Boards are some of the HARDEST hit section of the PIM site, if at any one time, the traffic is high - the table/content may take a while to load the data, just be patience. If it stalls, just click on the 'Reload' or 'Refresh' button on your browser menu once to re-attempt. Thank you.

Charles and John, It sounds like your mirror magnet MG2 is sticking (flashing arrow in main lcd beside the wind speed indicators). This is similar to the shutter magnets sticking but that indication is EEE on the main lcd and HELP in the viewfinder. The cleaning procedure for MG2 is documented in the SPT service notes for the T90. I have come up with my own procedure and made some pictures to give you some idea of the location of MG2. This has worked for me and others in cleaning MG2 without extensive dis-assembly of your T90. Of course you take your T90 apart at your own risk though...Send me an email and I will forward the text and pictures to you if you are interested.

I need someone to tell me what is happening: After my T90 had been in storage for about 6 months I changed the batteries and got it ready for use. The film loaded. But when I went to take a picture, the marker for the film winding mode began blinking and the shutter would not fire. I am not sure that the shutter is cocked. The mark continues to blink until the camera is reset. I can't find anything in the book as to what this blinking mark means. There is no error in the viewfinder or on the panel. Can anyone help me? Charles Cate

John - I think once the shutter magnet goes, you have to have it repaired. And if you've been banging it on the floor, it may need more than that! Ken

Sorry people, I know this question has been posed lots of times, but there are so many pages on this forum, I can't read them all, and the search facility only gives me a few hits (and none of them are the ones I want). I have T90, bought from new, but (foolishly, I now know) lain unused for a year or so. Result? Shutter doesn't fire (the arrow next to 'S' on the LCD display flashes). I know it's because I haven't used it, and the shutter grease is preventing it opening, so what is the solution?

I've tried repeatedly pushing the stop-down lever whilst releasing the shutter (suggested to me last year by someone on this forum), and the (more drastic!) idea of banging it on a hard, carpetted floor (also seen on this forum). Neither of these works. Any ideas apart from the (£80 + postage) repair option, that is! Thanks, John

Hello Luigi, Thanks again. Your answers sound logical and I will experiment with your solutions to the T-90 flash riddles in the near future. Regards, Jan

Jan: the flash modes of the T90 are a bit tricky and not well documented. There is a paper (available at http://www.canonfd.com/300ref/300ref.htm that explains them better. there should be also a paper from Alan Swartz in the T90 Yahoo group, IIRC). About your question, it depends if you want the "available light metering" feature of the T90 or simply use plain TTL. In the first case you set the camera in Av mode, and the flash to A-TTL (or FE-Lock, if needed). In the second situations, simply set the aperture on the lens and the speed on the camera. Flash must be on A-TTL or FEL. This will put the system in "simple TTL" mode and the camera will meter when light is enough for the subject, ignoring ambient light.

Hello Luigi, Thank you for your helpful comments. Please advise me on this specific question: How do I set the T90 to use TTl flash on the ML3 (or TL300 for that matter) with a correct sync speed (between 30 and 250) and be free to choose the diaphraghm I want. Cheers,Jan
