The Canon T-90 System

Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Canon T-90 - Message Board/Guestbook

The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

Juan,

The lenses from your AE-1P will work the same way on a T-90. If you have FD (or FD compatible) lenses you will have full through the lens metering. If non FD lenses, you will only get stopped down metering or manual operation.

Good luck,

TomR.

If anyone knows the answer to this question, please email me...I don't know if these posts automatically get emailed or not, and I don't always have a chance to check this board. I have a Sunpak 522 flash, and I am looking into purchasing the Canon FD version of the remote sensor for it (Sunpak item number CA-5). Does anyone know if this remote sensor will dedicate my 522 to my T90? If so, what features will it activate that my 300TL activates? (In other words, will it turn my Sunpak 522 into the equivalent of my 300TL? If not, what will the advatages of this remote sensor be? Any info would be a BIG help!

I have two questions, and I'm sure they've both been answered before. However, my searches of the message board have not turned up any useful answers.

1) Does the 540ez flash for the eos function identically as the 300TL? Are there any advantage/disadvantages?

2) Is it okay to use lithium AA batteries in place of normal alkaline for better low temperature performance?

Thanks,

Jarred

Pete, Open the wing flap to gain access to the handgrip panel. At the very top is a narrow, rectangular switch with a yellow line at its bottom. Push the top of the switch to your right all the way. The line should now be pointing at the sun symbol. Your T90 should now behave properly. Check your owners' manual.

I have a T-90
The side display is not working.
When I have the metering to spot and I press the spot button (near the shutter release) the scale should turn on.

This scale NEVER lights up.

Anything else to try?
Is this a common problem?

Hi all,
I recently bought a 300TL flash for my T90, but
I think that it does not work correctly.

The problem is that when I use the FEL mode and I use spot metering, the indicated exposure is the same with the indicated
exposure without using flash. To me it seems that the T90
cannot synchronize with the flash to read the metering at
the right time.

Has anybody ever encountered similar problems? How can I know
if the problem is in the camera or the problem is in the flash?

Similar things happen with the A-TTL mode. But there, as far as
I have understood the A-TTL concepts, long exposure times in the
viewfinder are ok, because the real exposure time is decided
when you really take the picture from the reflected light from
the film. Is this correct, or is A-TTL mode not working too?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Manolis

Hi,
I just got a t90 from ebay. It's great. I've used an FTb for 26 years. I can'y believe the difference. I would like to get a 300tl flash. They are hard to find and get on ebay. Will other canon speedlite flashes work on the t90? The 420ex, 320ex, 300ez, etc. come to mind. Will they perform as well as the 300tl and have all the features the 300 has?
Thanks,
Jim Kuras

Ron, Of the 11 different methods of exposing film in the T90, 10 of them require the aperture ring to be set at
"A" (automatic). Taking it off "A" will still give you proper exposures but you had better obey the instructions in your viewfinder. It can be used for " stopped down" metering and for accessories that have no mecxhanical or electrical means of transmitting information to the camera. Your instruction manual is your best source of information on the various exposure modes. "A" greatly increases the flexibility of this great camera.

All,
I've been on the A Series board for awhile now, and am the owner of an A-1 and AE-1 for over 20 years now.
AE-1 was purchased as a "second" camera, and rarely used.
Thought I might sell it on E-Bay and buy another A-1, then thought, "What WAS that whole "T Series" thing?
Checked out this site to see what the T-90 was about, and am giving thought to selling my AE-1 body and buying the T-90 body.
A few T-90's are on E-Bay, and was wondering what kind of price to expect on a T-90 body in excellent shape.
"I need some body..."
