The Canon T-90 System |
|
Modern
Classic SLRs Series : |
The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

as to 100mm macros - I would certainly agree with Ken D as to Tamron SP90 which I own - the f2.5 makes it very snappy and sharp and I always enjoy using it. I bought it 20 years ago or whatever after reading a comparison in an English magazine between it and the Canon 100mm f4 - not only was it half the price of the Canon but it was also better in terms of sharpness/resolution! I think you can happily buy this lens with absolute confidence. Have never bought the 2x converter needed for 1:1 but for the odd flower shots etc I have used it I would highly recommend it. Obviously its also very good as a portait lens as well because of the sharp focus from the f2.5. Ken may well be right as to a lot of these lens being from the same factory.2. Barry - I work with these lenses a lot, and have done a fair bit of research. In the 100mm neighborhood, which is primarily what I use, there is an embrassment of riches. Besides the Canon 100/4, there are 4 or 5 3rd party 90mm f/2.5 or 2.8 macros that are just stunning lenses. Put away any prejudices you may have about 3rd party glass. A few of these have achieved what one fondly calls "cult" status. I own two of them, acan provide samples, and will readily vouch for them. These are the ones as you will find them listed:
Tamron SP (Adaptall 2) 90mm f/2.5 - requires an adapter (easy to find, ca. $30) to use on any camera. will do 1:2 without converter, 1:1 with.
Vivitar Series 1 90mm f/2.5 macro - made by Tokina or Kiron, depending on ser.# - comes in FD mount, same magnification as Tamron
Kiron 90mm f/2.5 - probably the same lens as above
Tokina M90 90mm f/2.5 macro - very highly rated at photodo - 4.6, probably a different lens from the Series 1. same magnification specs as above.
Kiron 105mm f/2.8 - 1:1 unaided - very sharp lens.
I own the Tamron and Viv Ser.1 lenses, and also a Vivitar Series 1 90-180mm f/4.5 flatfield zoom which is another stunner. It was designed for medical photography, and is plumb true. Requires a doubler to reach 1:1 at 180mm, which translates to a 360mm macro lens! That's some working distance. Heavy lens, but I love what it does. You can find all of these lenses on eBay, usually in the $100-200 range, and as long as they arfe in good shape, you would be extremely pleased with any of them.3. I have a T90 (which amazes me more with every film I develop) and I am after a macro lense. I don't know which one to get 50,100 or 200. I think I would prefer the 100mm as I have a feeling that the 50mm will be too short working distance and the 200 will be hideously expensive. Do you guys have any opinion that might help me make up my mind? How much should a good price be on each one (UKĀ£)? Barry4. From : Randy Terra (rterra@sonic.net)

Hi Mickey, No, there deffinitely was enough light. I have since emptied the camera of film and tripped the shutter at all speeds with the back open and light passed through every time. I will just keep working the camera at 1/4000 to losen things up. All other exposures at other settings have been right on. Thanks, Randy5. From : Mickey Oberman (mickeyobe@internet.look.ca)

Randy, Could it simply be a case of not enough existing light to expose the film at 1/4000? However, it seems to be working now so why worry. If the problem occurs again you may commence worying.6. From : Randy Terra (rterra@sonic.net)

Hi there, I tried reading through other posts before I posted this question. I couldn't find a post with exactly the same question. My question is, does anyone out ther know a reason why some of my exposures are coming out completely unexposed? The common thred I believe to these unexposed shots is that they were all shot at 1/4000 of a second. I just bought this camera and it apears to be in excellant condition. On the last roll though I must say that the last three frames I exposed at 1/4000 and with the film advance on high. These three frames came out great with no strange artifacts about them. Is it possible that the shutter and curtain were not syncronising? With use could this problem resolve itself? Maybe this camera had been sitting for a while before I bought it. I have only exposed two roll so far. Thanks, Randy7. From : Terry Taylor (taylort111kph@yahoo.com)

Ali, the error you refer to is usually an indication that the mirror release magnet(mg2) is dirty and is not allowing the mirror to move. This problem usually happens after a period of non-use. Evidently the magnet is a "sandwich" type and the adhesive holding it together will glue the release arm to it. A CLA will usually fix this problem.8. From : Ken D (kdurling@earthlink.net)

Kolos - Just saw your question, sorry. I don't know too much about these batteries, but they're just 1.5V Lithium AA batteries, made by Energizer. Says "Pile Lithium Battery" on it, and AFAIK, they're not rechargeable. Lot of people use them in flash for their long life and fast recharge times. Not cheap - about $10 for 4.9. Ken D, Yes. That seems to be the only "S" in the neighbourhood. I tried to reproduce what his T90 is doing and couldn't. I even tried an uncoded cassette. Nothing. I hate to concede that something might possibly be amiss with his beloved T90. The red LED's always go off during any exposure. I would like to suggest that Ali remove the film and try releasing the shutter in various modes. The only thing I can think of is that the film may be jammed. But there are a lot of much wiser heads than mine on this site. Surely somone can come up with a solution. Short of that - camera hospital.10. Sounds like Ali must be referring to "S"ingle shot drive mode.
